Job Purpose:
Reporting to the Pharmacy Manager and working collaboratively with pharmacists, technicians, and assistants, the primary focus of the Pharmacy Clerk is to maintain prescription pick-up and drop-off areas in order to provide prompt and accurate processing of the customer/patient’s order. Provide clerical support to other pharmacy staff to ensure timely and courteous customer/patient service. Experienced pharmacy clerk familiar with Canadian pharmacy operations. Skilled in customer service, prescription processing support, inventory handling, and maintaining an organized, patient‐focused environment. Looking for part‐time opportunities to contribute to a collaborative pharmacy team.
Principal Responsibilities:
Operational
• Assist the Pharmacist/Pharmacy Technician with the preparation, packaging and distribution of patient prescriptions.
• Input all prescriptions, labels and consent forms to ensure patient information is up to date and in the pharmacy’s computer system.
• Complete documentation i.e. third-party management and reconciliation, filling prescriptions, printing reports, invoices etc.
• Maintain a clean and organized workspace and dispensary.
• Prepare compounded products following proper procedures and maintaining proper documentation as per SOPs.
• Ensure all patient information is up to date and in the pharmacy’s computer system when accepting prescriptions from customers.
• Take appropriate action(s) to prevent and reduce medication errors and medication discrepancies and implement measures to prevent recurrence.
• Perform cash management duties, including processing customers through the till and cash-out duties per SOP’s, if applicable.
• Ensure deliveries are processed in an accurate and timely fashion and ensure proper documentation is maintained.
• Protect patient rights to quality care, dignity, privacy and confidentiality.
• Monitoring of site refrigeration temperatures and reporting any variances directly to the Pharmacy Manager or Pharmacist on-duty.
Merchandising/Inventory Management
- Maintain efficient flow of merchandise from receiving to the dispensary.
- Advise appropriate personnel of out-of-stocks or shortages.
- Perform cycle counts, stock dispensary shelves and order supplies for the pharmacy.
- Monitor inventory levels and identify approaching and critical expiration dates.
- Assist in preparation for inventory counts.
Customer Service
- Answer or direct inquiries regarding location of product, refunds, exchanges, pricing etc.
- Answer the telephone in a professional and courteous manner.
- Address customer issues to ensure that all issues remain confidential and are resolved in a timely manner or when appropriate, direct issues to the pharmacist.
- Present the proper image to the public in accordance with pharmacy standards: clean appearance, approved uniform, and name badge.
- Ensure all patient inquiries regarding prescriptions and non-prescription medications, uses, treatments, and recommendations are referred to the pharmacist on duty.
- Ensure customers are referred to the pharmacist for direct involvement in the sales of restricted access OTC products, if applicable.
General
- Ensure that all Loss Prevention systems are performed according to established guidelines.
- Keep current with and apply knowledge of legal requirements, professional standards, and where provided, workplace policies and procedures.
- Control cash, cheques, etc., in accordance with cash handling policies and procedures.
- Perform the necessary cash register functions on the POS terminal in accordance with SOPs.
- Maintain standards of image and housekeeping.
- Comply with all health and safety requirements.
- Maintain confidentiality in all matters.
- Fulfill other duties as assigned to support Rexall Pharmacies ULC.
Knowledge, skills and experience:
- Post-secondary education required
- Familiarity with computer and register skills
- Well organized, detail orientated and ability to keep records
- Good communication skills both written and verbal
- Ability to work independently but also to function as a part of a team
Context and Environment:
Must be able to perform in a fast-paced and changing environment that requires a balance of teamwork and meeting store and customer expectations. Focus is on customer needs and procedural adherence. Providing assistance to the Pharmacy team to ensure that the needs or issues of the customers are met and resolved in a timely and professional manner. Must be able to work flexible shifts which may include nights and weekends. This job requires a high degree of accuracy and confidentiality. Customer satisfaction must be high, ensuring that customer order processes are efficient and meet company standards. Ability to lift 50lbs and act as the frontline company representative to ensure the vision created by management is carried out in relation to the specific job.

Required to provide availability for all weekends and minimum 2 weekdays evening per week
