Job Description

Are you an experienced embedded systems expert passionate about driving innovation in automotive technology? Join our MCU Tools and Ecosystem team as a Senior Staff Application Engineer, where you will play a strategic role in shaping the development and adoption of Renesas’ next-generation microcontroller ecosystem. You will provide technical guidance, drive cross-functional initiatives, and actively participate in the design, deployment, and optimization of embedded systems for automotive applications.


This role offers the opportunity to influence architectural decisions, define embedded tool strategies, and engage directly with top-tier automotive customers and internal stakeholders to guide the development of cutting-edge solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Technical Ownership: Drive the development of complex embedded applications and reference designs using Renesas MCUs, with a focus on motor control, inverter, communication gateway, and other key automotive applications.
  • Embedded Architecture and Firmware Expertise: Provide deep technical direction on low-level embedded programming, real-time operating systems, hardware abstraction layers, and system performance optimization.
  • Customer and Ecosystem Enablement: Serve as a senior technical advisor to strategic automotive customers, supporting integration and deployment of MCU solutions within their systems.
  • Toolchain and Ecosystem Strategy: Influence the roadmap of MCU tools, SDKs, and development environments based on customer needs and market trends.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Lead collaboration across hardware, software, and applications teams to ensure cohesive, robust, and scalable solutions.
  • Mentorship and Guidance: Mentor junior engineers and application teams, promoting knowledge sharing and technical excellence.
  • Quality and Testing: Implement automated testing methodologies, including system-level test strategies for embedded platforms, ensuring high reliability and compliance with automotive standards.

Qualifications

You are best equipped for this role if you have:

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in embedded systems software development, ideally within the automotive domain.

Deep knowledge of:

  • Embedded processors and microcontroller architectures in automotive applications
  • Embedded operating systems
  • Automotive communication protocols (CAN, LIN, FlexRay, Ethernet)
  • Low-level embedded programming in C, and scripting with Python or equivalent
  • Development, integration, and debugging of low-level drivers and firmware components, including hardware abstraction layers and related middleware
  • Board-level design, circuit analysis, debugging with tools such as oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers
  • Automated and system-level testing frameworks and methodologies

Additionally you have:

  • Proven ability to drive complex technical initiatives and align cross-functional teams.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to represent technical solutions clearly to internal and external stakeholders.
  • A collaborative mindset with a passion for mentorship, innovation, and delivering impactful results.
