Overall Requirements:

We are seeking a motivated Manufacturing Engineering Student / Intern for a fixed-term contract position, to support our cable and harness manufacturing operations, with exposure to military programs. This role provides hands-on experience in technical data review, BOM creation, cost estimation, and manufacturing process support.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, eager to learn, and interested in developing practical engineering skills in a fast-paced, regulated manufacturing environment. Strong analytical thinking, organization, and collaboration skills are key to success in this role.

Responsibilities:

  • New Product Evaluation & Costing:
    • Assist in reviewing technical drawings and data packages for custom cable and harness products
    • Support the development of costing BOMs and collaborate with Procurement to gather material and tooling information
    • Assist in estimating labor hours (engineering and production) based on guidance from senior team members
    • Participate in time studies and data collection to support continuous improvement of costing accuracy
  • Manufacturing Process Development & Optimization:
    • Support the development and documentation of cable assembly processes, including routing and work instructions
    • Assist in evaluating manufacturing methods, tooling, and equipment capabilities
    • Help identify opportunities for process improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce waste
    • Collect and analyze production data to support process optimization initiatives
  • New Product Introduction (NPI) & First Article Build Oversight:
    • Assist during first article builds to ensure alignment with engineering drawings and specifications
    • Support the creation of work instructions, basic test plans, and documentation
    • Work with production teams to help ensure a smooth transition from prototype to production
  • BOM & MRP System Management:
    • Assist in creating and updating manufacturing BOMs under supervision
    • Support data entry and validation in ERP/MRP systems for production planning
    • Help monitor material availability and coordinate with procurement and production teams
    • Assist in identifying alternative materials or components when required
  • Quality & Compliance Support:
    • Support the Quality Control (QC) team with documentation during inspections
    • Assist in troubleshooting basic manufacturing or quality issues
    • Help ensure documentation aligns with internal procedures and applicable standards
    • Participate in data collection and basic analysis for process improvement initiatives

Education & Experience:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field

Additional Qualifications:

  • Interest in manufacturing, cable and harness assembly, or aerospace/military industries
  • Basic understanding of manufacturing processes and engineering drawings
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel
  • Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems is an asset but not required
