Job Description

WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY?

The Wealth Management, Financial Control & Governance team is looking for a Manager, WM Financial Controls & Governance in our Toronto head office.

This is a challenging key role within the WM FCG team. You will be a leading part of the team that ensures appropriate controls, processes, and governance frameworks are in place to support the completeness and accuracy of the Financial Statements and provide interpretation on accounting standards, guidance, and advice on transactions as they arise. Reporting to the Senior Manager, WM FCG, the Manager will be a critical member of the team's growth.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

  • Support the WM team by ensuring business results are accurately reflected in the financial systems on a timely basis, including ensuring the completeness and accuracy of the results in PeopleSoft and EPM.
  • Prepare and post journal entries as required to ensure accuracy of the books and records and to ensure the validation of General Ledger Trial Balance.
  • Maintain Financial Controls by reviewing and analyzing accounts, investigate and take actions to resolve them; preparation of balance sheet account reconciliations; cash inflow/outflow analysis; cash settlements, position accounts, etc.
  • Support period-end close activities and deliver on several financial and management reporting deliverables, including but not limited to MD&A, note disclosures and regulatory reporting; coordinate within Finance to ensure the period-end close process includes review of monthly entries prepared by RBC on behalf of WM for significant accounts.
  • Review accounting policy issues and liaise with the Accounting Policy Group to determine appropriate accounting treatments; maintain technical accounting knowledge and keep abreast of new accounting developments to provide accounting interpretation, guidance, and advice.
  • Identify workflow inefficiencies and work with stakeholders to develop improved solutions, including automation opportunities where applicable; integrate financial knowledge with data analytical skills to develop financial models.
  • Ensure new products and new transactions are appropriately captured in RBC Financial Reporting Systems including the appropriate use of GLs and Financial Statement reporting lines; serve as point of contact for intercompany Balance Sheet and Income Statement reconciliations including the coordination of intercompany invoices to facilitate intercompany eliminations.
  • Monitor the WM financial control environment by supporting BS attestation process and performing second level reviews of Standard of Documentation (SOD), following up on queries, running monthly attestation meetings, updating risk rating and BRAGs in line with RBC policy; perform and update SOX controls as needed; lead special projects as assigned by Senior Manager, WM FCG.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED?

Must have:

  • Working towards or near completion of an Accounting or Finance Designation (i.e., CPA, CFA).
  • 3+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret and make recommendations.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a strong client service orientation—willingness to take all issues through to a successful resolution.
  • Commitment to continuous skill development.

Nice-to-have:

  • Proficiency in automation tools or technologies (RPA, VBA, SQL, Python, or JavaScript).
  • Financial Services industry experience with knowledge of the asset management industry.
  • PeopleSoft and EPM (IBM TM1) experience.
  • Knowledge of Data visualization tools such as Tableau.
