Job Description

What is the opportunity?

This role exists to provide competitive execution of fixed income trades and related support for RBC DS Investment Advisors. A successful fixed income trading associate will be respected for both trade execution skills and the ability to offer sound opinions and insights.

Execution includes: maintaining knowledge of the firm’s inventories, market prices and managing relationships with RBC CM traders. Support includes: product knowledge and education, advice pertaining to security selection, fixed income strategy and proactive service where possible.

This role supports a fixed income asset base of almost $200 billion, covering millions of transactions per year totaling about $150 billion in a wide range of domestic, US and international fixed income securities.

What will you do?

  • Accept inbound calls and provide fast and efficient trade execution for the entire suite of Fixed Income products available at RBC.
  • Negotiate with RBC Capital Markets (RBC CM) traders and other counterparties on the client’s behalf, utilizing knowledge of the products, current markets and trader’s inventories to secure product and pricing that is favourable to the client.
  • Assist Investment Advisors (IAs) in selecting the most appropriate security for a given strategy and provide the IA with the necessary information to accurately explain the product or opportunity to their client.
  • Oversight of product groups as assigned (eg. Corporate Bonds, Strips, F/X, GICs, Structured Notes), with responsibility for the robustness of product offerings, and quality of marketing and educational materials.
  • Responsible for Foreign Exchange Trading activities. A strong understanding of Currency markets is required. Must be able to comprehend the dynamics of Currency trading and be able to discuss market outlook/strategy with Advisors.
  • Generate quality and timely trade ideas and product highlights within the suite of Advisor-oriented publications (morning note, mid day note, direct email, conference calls, etc.)
  • Collaborate with RBC CM and US Wealth Management, utilizing their capabilities to maximize our product offering and improve pricing to clients.
  • Follow policies and procedures in order to contain costs and minimize risk to the firm or the possibility of errors.

What do you need to succeed?

Must Have

  • Canadian Securities Course (CSC) & Conduct and Practices Handbook Course (CPH)
  • Securities Trading experience required and strong understanding of the dynamics of a trading environment and the "Over the Counter" (OTC) fixed income market.
  • Previous experience working with IAs or in a retail client setting preferred.
  • Excellent writing and speaking skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with particular aptitude in the art of negotiation and communication.
  • Strong sense of judgement in balancing interests of IAs, clients, and RBC CM traders
  • Strong attention to detail and high level of diligence.
  • Proven and strong client service ethic.

Nice to Have

  • Fixed Income and/or Currency Trading experience considered an asset.
  • French & English considered an asset.

Pay Range

The expected pay range for this position is:

$67,000.00 - $110,000.00
