What is the opportunity?
The Senior Manager, Data Retention and Policy Management is a strategically important role within the Personal & Commercial Banking (PB&CB) Data Management Office (DMO) at RBC. This role is critical in enabling PB&CB to protect, defend, and responsibly utilize data while mitigating risks related to data retention and destruction. By leveraging data governance principles, the role proactively manages reputational risk and ensures compliance with internal and external regulatory requirements, supporting RBC’s vision of becoming a digitally enabled relationship bank.
What will you do?
- Lead the review and input for the development and update of RBC Data Policies and Standards related to data retention and destruction on behalf of PB&CB.
- Execute data policy compliance, including monitoring and oversight of data retention, destruction, sharing, and usage.
- Act as a subject matter advisor, navigator, and integrator for PB&CB on data retention, privacy, and data sharing.
- Assist in the development, monitoring, and reporting of KRIs and KPIs related to Data Retention and Destruction compliance.
- Ensure timely articulation, management, and escalation of issues to achieve resolution.
- Support the Senior Director, PB&CB DMO, in creating and executing a change management strategy, including training and communication.
- Prepare materials and communications for stakeholders, including Steering Committee materials.
- Collaborate with key stakeholders, including 2LOD, to meet external regulatory data requirements (e.g., Quebec Bill-64, GDPR, Privacy legislation).

Must-have:
- Deep expertise in data governance, retention, and policy management.
- Strong understanding of regulatory requirements (e.g., GDPR, Quebec Bill-64, Privacy legislation).
- Proven ability to lead policy development and compliance initiatives.
- Excellent stakeholder management and collaboration skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience in financial services or banking industry.
- Knowledge of RBC’s Enterprise Information Management Risk Policy and Standards.
- Project management and change management experience.
- Familiarity with KRIs, KPIs, and data compliance reporting.
- Strong communication and presentation skills for executive-level stakeholders.
