What is the opportunity?
The RBC Investment Management team seeks an Investment Analyst to conduct rigorous independent research and analysis utilizing financial modeling methodologies to provide expert guidance on asset selection. In this role, you will drive investment recommendations across fixed income and equity portfolios, with exposure to investment outcomes and measurable impact on fund strategies.
What will you do?
- Securities Analysis: Conduct comprehensive Bloomberg-based analysis of fixed income securities, including credit risk assessment, yield curve analysis, and relative value positioning; perform detailed equity valuation and financial statement analysis to support investment decisions
- Investment Thesis Development: Lead the development of investment theses and direct portfolio positioning decisions; establish and monitor frameworks for evaluating investment decision quality and performance attribution.
- Valuation Modeling & Opportunity Assessment: Build and maintain rigorous equity valuation models (discounted cash flow analysis, comparable company analysis) utilizing Bloomberg data; identify compelling investment opportunities and mitigate portfolio risks through early identification of negative market trends.
- Market Research & Intelligence: Execute independent market screening and analysis to identify potential investments, monitor existing portfolio positions, and assess macroeconomic developments.
- Capital Market Forecasting: Lead the development of capital market forecasts and economic analysis to inform portfolio strategy and guide investment committees.
- Strategic Stakeholder Communication: Present portfolio analyses and market perspectives to senior management and external stakeholders; prepare investment research reports and market analysis for distribution; provide technical guidance to junior analysts.
- Institutional Reporting: Deliver comprehensive market intelligence and portfolio performance analysis to governance committees of pension plans, savings plans, and employee stock ownership plans.
- Ad Hoc Request: Ensure that ad hoc requests for information are handled courteously and in a timely manner
What do you need to succeed?
Must-have
- Bachelor’ Degree in Economics, Finance or related discipline.
- Currently pursuing CFA qualification.
- Demonstrated expertise in applicable financial regulations (Insurance Act; The Income Tax Act., securities regulations).
- Established knowledge of domestic and international financial markets.
- Sophisticated understanding of macroeconomic factors and their implications for investment performance.
- Minimum three (3) years’ experience in a financial institution or in a position engaged in investment analysis.
