Job Description
Position Purpose
- Design and develop conferences and events that align with company’s objectives, deliver measurable outcomes, and enhance the brand experience.
- Drive brand awareness and customer engagement, through impactful, high-quality events.
- Ensures all events enhance client engagement, support business development, and upholds the highest standards of professionalism and compliance
- This position works cross-functionally with internal teams, stakeholders, external partners and the Client & Marketing Strategy Team in advancing their strategy, and that of RBCCM as a whole.
Authorities, Impact & Risk
Authorities
- Authority to recommend suppliers (venues, caterers, entertainers, audio-visual providers, etc.) to internal clients and use them in the development and delivery of conference and event programs upon approval.
- Negotiate contracts with external vendors, partners and venues to ensure alignment with company needs and budget while maintaining high standards of quality and service delivery
- Define messaging and overall experience of events, ensuring consistency with the firm’s brand identity, goals and strategic priorities.
Impact
- Well executed events enhance the brand and positioning as a leader in the industry.
- Events can be touchpoints for lead generation, client engagement and sales opportunities. Successful events contribute to the sales pipeline through leads and fosters stronger client relationships.
- Memorable events strengthen client relationships with existing clients encouraging loyalty and retention
- Events provide valuable insights into customer needs, competitor actions and market trends. This role leverages feedback to inform future marketing, product development and customer strategies.
- Internal events aid in enhancing employee morale, fosters collaboration and stronger corporate culture with direct impact on maintaining a motivated, engaged workforce.
Risk
- Financial risk can be large responsibility and mismanagement can result in financial loss for the firm and reduce ROI of the event an overall impact.
- Reputational risk can be harmed if an event is poorly managed if there is negative attendee feedback and diminishing the trust in the firm’s ability to delivery high quality experiences
- Failure to consider compliance and legal considerations such as contracts, insurance, health and safety and data protection regulations could result in legal liabilities.
- Events are an extension of the brand and messaging. A disconnect between experience and company values, tone or customer promise cold harm brand consistency leading to mistrust.
- Planner is responsible for planning for potential crises (e.g., last minute cancellations, technical issues or health emergencies) during and event. Failure to have proper contingency plans could worsen the situation leading to larger disruptions and negative publicity.
Working Conditions / Compliance
Open workspace office environment. Minimal physical effort required. Attention to detail, ability to manage multiple files concurrently; to work overtime (sometimes weekends); and travel required.
What's in it for you
The base salary range for this job is $ 75,000 - $100,000 per year. This salary does not include other elements of total compensation, including a discretionary bonus and benefits such as a 401(k) program with company-matching contributions; health, dental, vision, life and disability insurance; and paid time-off plan.

Preferred Education and or / Experience
- 2-3 years’ experience in planning conferences and events in an investment banking or financial services environment
- Event Management Certificate and/or CMP Certification an asset
- Strong organizational and project management skills
- Ability to work with senior leadership, external clients and suppliers, and strong interpersonal skills
- Strong team orientation, and communication skills (written and oral)
- Ability to manage conflicting priorities, changing elements and challenging personalities
Technical Competencies
- Superior skills in Microsoft office
- Excellent skills in using event tools like Cvent
- Intermediate skills using virtual event platforms such as On24, Open Exchange, WebEx Webinars
Primary Responsibilities
- Develop and manage overall program budgets and resourcing for conferences and events
- Negotiate contracts with venues and other suppliers
- Oversee development and delivery of small and mid sized conferences and events
- Develop conference & event marketing analytics
- Some travel may be required
- Assist with Ticket and Event Center requests
Key Relationships
- Anticipated interactions with senior leadership in RBCCM and other groups within RBC. These interactions will centre on client teams/committees/groups responsible for strategy, content and promotion of conferences and events.
- Strong relationships with colleagues on the Global Conference & Event Marketing and Client & Marketing Strategy teams will be important.
- Strong relationships with external vendors and industry experts
