Job Description

What is the opportunity?

Our client is a specialist provider of asset services, custody, payments and treasury services. Founded in 1864, they are the 10th largest bank worldwide and the 5th in North America, as measured by market capitalization. Our client has a processing centre of operational excellence supporting 10 countries across three geographical time zones employing a Global Operating Model to maximise efficiencies across times zones and supports a 24/5 operational capability. The objectives for Malaysia are to enhance the scalability of their global operations, improve service quality via their ‘centres of excellence’ and to implement/leverage standardised processes globally.

RBC Investor Services Malaysia is a processing center of operational excellence supporting the Canadian clients across the geographical time zones. Malaysia is the operational processing hub that supports the Custody and Market Services business– Cash/FX Operation, Securities Lending Operations, Transaction Management; Settlements; Client Services ; Client Invoicing; Data Service Delivery; Entitlements – income and corporate actions, Pricing and Reconciliations. The country employs a Global Operating Model to maximise efficiencies across the Canadian operating hours and with follow the sun model operational capability. The objectives for Malaysia are to enhance the scalability of our global operations, improve service quality via our ‘centres of excellence’ and to implement/leverage standard processes globally.

What will you do?

  • Lead and direct the Custody and Cash Operation functions in Malaysia serving the hub of Canada operations
  • Identify, manage and lead operational initiatives to enhance the service we provide to our Canadian clients, via both internal and external service and client groups
  • Work with the risk teams to establish and implement improved controls to maintain the integrity of the groups function and achieve high standard of quality expected by our clients
  • Ensure that all activities are processed in a timely, accurate and efficient manner utilizing processes and procedures, which mitigate and minimize risk across the business
  • Responsible to support, and accountable to deliver key strategic initiatives driven by the Toronto head office, often playing the Operations lead role in these key strategic and local initiatives
  • Work with various business stakeholders to ensure all initiatives are executed and delivered within the timeline established by the project/steering committee
  • Project deliverables will need to be aligned with the implementation of the Global Target Operating Model, yet also represent the BAU production activities across the existing framework
  • Need to develop, own and drive relationships through the value chain from Operations, Client Coverage, Operational Risk, Client Experience, Client Solution, and Technology
  • Ensure to maintain or excel in client service delivery, focus on reducing operational risk, increasing operational efficiency and sharing best practices throughout the change management lifecycle of all key projects for Custody and Cash functions
  • Support the accelerated business growth across Investor Services and ensures the required business continuity and resilience are established
  • Support and implement initiatives led by the Malaysia GM office to ensure local requirements are met in accordance with the local employment act
  • Managing a span of 80 to 90 FTE’s, this includes performance management, coaching & mentoring, staff growth and development
  • Operational Effectiveness – Develop and implement comprehensive target operating model, framework, and establish an environment of continuous improvement that assesses workflow, processes and procedures on an ongoing basis to maximize efficiency and quality within the department and alignment with globally harmonized and agreed procedures.
  • Risk Management - Ensure procedures are adequate to ensure compliance with applicable regulatory & audit requirements as well as internal risk management policies to mitigate financial/reputational risk for existing processes as well as new business/transitions.
  • Client Service, Sales and Relationship Management Support - Accountable for ongoing satisfaction of clients by ensuring deliverables meet client needs and expectations by acting as the senior point of contact and participating actively in Transaction Management and Cash Operations Functional Working Group.
  • Human Resources Management and Development - Build a high-performance team and ensure human resource policies are effectively implemented and administered.
  • General Management - Participate as a member of Operations Management Team, in the development, implementation and execution of strategies and business plans across the business.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • 10-15 years financial services industry experience in an operations environment.
  • 5-10 years’ experience in managing large groups of operations professionals.
  • Experience in Custody and Cash operations with extensive Treasury Operations, Trade Processing & Market Settlements knowledge
  • Post-secondary education with an accounting/finance or business concentration or equivalent experience.
  • Strong innovation and change management orientation.
  • In-depth risk management knowledge.
  • Superior interpersonal and networking skills with a proven track record of dealing with clients, industry associations, senior management, colleagues and staff.
  • Proven track record of handling/leading operational projects.
  • The role supports a global model and therefore the role requires work outside of standard local hours
