What is the opportunity?
The Enterprise Chief Controls Office (ECCO) is a first line of defense group, newly centralized across the Enterprise with a Global Mandate to embed a culture of risk ownership and operational excellence by elevating the control environment and driving consistency and quality of risk practices to minimize loss and regulatory sanction, drive cost efficiencies, and accelerate execution to enable growth.
The Enterprise Control Testing (ECT) team serves as RBC’s central control testing function, acting on behalf of the 1LOD (first line of defense) Control Owner, and is responsible for performing control assurance activities in accordance with RBC’s Internal Controls Testing Policy and Standards (ICMP and ICMS).
We are seeking a BI Developer Intern that will build and support ECT’s data & reporting capabilities.
What will you do?
The BI Developer Intern will support ECT’s design, implementation and execution of Data, Reporting and Dashboard products in collaboration with business end users and with enablement through RBC’s Technology group, including relevant tools and infrastructure to support the centres operating the control testing activities and enabling data driven insights on control testing activities. Key activities include:
- Data Pipeline Development: Build and optimize ETL/ELT processes to integrate data from source systems into centralized warehouses or data stores.
- Reporting & Visualization: Create interactive dashboards (using tools such as Tableau, Power BI) and reports for control testing including risk insights and operational metrics
- Compliance & Security: Implement data governance practices and role-based access. controls to protect sensitive financial data.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Partner with controls office peers and leadership as well as stakeholder groups and technology enablers to refine requirements and deliver actionable insights.
- Documentation: Maintain technical documentation for data workflows, schemas, and reporting processes, metric definitions, etc.
- Develop the vision, approach and strategy for the ECT data capability
- Execute on the data infrastructure for ECT including leading the initial build of the infrastructure, coordinate with Technology and Operations and Chief Data Office, build connections to existing data infrastructure across the enterprise (e.g. data lake, data warehouse), continue to evolve and improve the data infrastructure based on the group’s needs
What do you need to succeed?
Must Have:
- Currently enrolled at a Canadian post-secondary institution with a focus on computer science, data analytics, business intelligence or data engineering
- Experience in BI tools with hands on development experience
- Leadership acumen and a passion is essential as you will apply it in a dynamic business environment
- Excellent interpersonal and highly developed communication skills (verbal and written)
- Creative and analytical thinker and problem solver who is self-driven and capable of working in a fast-paced environment
- Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail
Nice to Have:
- Previous business experience (internship, etc.) in BI/data engineering roles, ideally within Banking/Financial services

Please note: This posting is for a 4-months Summer 2026 Student placement with a start date of May 2026, and end date of August 2026. In order to be eligible for this 4-months Student position, you must either:
- Be returning back to school after the work term end-date of August 2026 ; or
- If you are not returning back to school (i.e. are graduating in August 2026), you must require the full 4-months work term as a mandatory component to in order to graduate successfully.
