As part of the Wealth Management, Financial Control & Governance team, we are looking for a Manager, WM Financial Controls & Governance to join our Toronto head office.

This is a challenging key role within the WM Financial Control team. You will be a leading part of the team that ensures appropriate controls, processes, and governance framework are in place to support the completeness and accuracy of the Financial Statements and provide interpretation on accounting standards, guidance, and advice on transactions as they arise. Reporting to the Senior Manager, WM Financial Control, the Manager will be a critical member of the team’s growth.
What will you do?
- Monitor the WM Platform financial control environment by supporting Balance Sheet attestation process and performing second level reviews of Standard of Documentation (SOD), following-up on queries, running monthly attestation meetings, updating risk ratings in line with RBC policy.
- Support the WM Financial Control team by ensuring business results are accurately reflected in the financial systems on a timely basis, while ensuring the completeness & accuracy of the results in PeopleSoft and EPM.
- Support period-end close activities and deliver on several financial & management reporting deliverables, including but not limited to MD&A, note disclosures and regulatory reporting.
- Critically involved in the execution of automation projects to reduce the amount of manual and repetitive work performed by the team.
- Analyze existing workflows for inefficiencies and work with stakeholders to execute an improved solution.
- Integrate financial knowledge with data analytical skills to assure completeness and accuracy of financial models.
- Work independently to develop documentation, identify inefficiencies and develop automated solutions.
- Review accounting policy issues and liaise with the Accounting Policy Group to determine appropriate accounting treatments. Maintain technical accounting knowledge and keep abreast of new accounting developments to provide accounting interpretation, guidance, and advice.
- Responsible for ensuring new products and new transactions are appropriately captured in RBC Financial Reporting Systems, including the appropriate use of GLs and Financial Statement reporting lines.
- Perform and update SOX controls as needed.
- Lead special projects as assigned by Senior Manager, WM Financial Control
What you need to succeed?
Must Have
- 3+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills including knowledge of VBA.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret and make recommendations.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with a strong client service orientation - willingness to take all issues through to a successful resolution.
- High level of attention to detail.
- Willingness to constantly develop new skills.
- Strong problem-solving skills, when facing new issues.
- Working towards or near completion an Accounting or Finance Designation (i.e. CPA, CFA).
Nice to Have
- Financial Services industry experience with knowledge of the asset management industry.
- PeopleSoft and EPM (IBM TM1) experience.
- Knowledge of Data visualization tools such as Tableau.
- Proficiency in automation tools or technologies (RPA, VBA, SQL, Python, or JavaScript).
