Job Description

What is the opportunity?

As an integral member of the HR Governance & Controls team, the Senior Manager, People Risk Governance will support the Senior Director, HR Risk Oversight & Governance with establishing a robust 2nd line of defense enterprise level Centre of Governance (COG) practice for People Risk, including, without limitation, enhancing the operational People Risk framework to align with enterprise requirements. Specifically, this role will:

  • Promote a clear understanding of RBC’s approach to the management of People Risk, including the definition, importance, principles, and mechanisms for identifying, assessing, managing and reporting People Risk matters, and the related oversight responsibilities
  • Represent HR as the key lead with respect to operational People Risk matters globally, providing guidance on, and building processes for, People Risk escalations
  • Provide objective and risk-based oversight and challenge of 1st Line of Defense people risk management practices and processes
  • Play a leading role in supporting senior management with the assessment and implementation of various HR risk and regulatory related projects and initiatives

What will you do?

  • Support the strategy and roadmap for development of the People Risk Centre of Governance (CoG), championing the behavior and culture to embed a risk management mindset and related activities
  • Build relationships with relevant stakeholders across GRM Operational Risk, functions and the various lines of business, to learn best practices and evolve the teams’ vision and approach towards improved data management, automation, dashboards, and insights
  • Work collaboratively with 1st LOD & 2nd LOD stakeholders to support the development of a dedicated and engaged network to support and inform the CoG.
  • Key contact and subject matter expert with respect to the People Risk Centre of Governance
  • Provide 2LOD review, oversight and challenge of People Risk components of risk assessments and operational risk tools and practices including, Risk Register, Risk & Control Self-Assessments (RCSA), Internal Control Management (ICMP), Enterprise Issues Management, Scenario Analysis, Thematic reviews, Internal/External Events, etc.
  • Support a global view of key risk indicators, operational risk practice outputs to provide management insights and to ensure accuracy of inputs into Operational Risk profile for People Risk
  • Prepare and coordinate dashboard and other Enterprise reporting of the People Risk operational risk profile for HR Senior Leadership awareness
  • Policy oversight over the HR People Risk framework and other governance policies and procedures
  • Play a leading role in preparing regulatory responses and coordinating regulatory exams across the HR function.

What do you need to succeed?

Must Have

  • Previous work experience within the Operational Risk and/or GRM space
  • Clear understanding of the roles and responsibilities of the three lines of defense from a risk perspective
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Dashboard/reporting capabilities, strong use of Excel and PowerPoint applications
  • Experience in working in a matrixed environment, and coordination of work involving with many stakeholders
