WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY?
Join a high-impact team at the forefront of RBC’s call centre and branch technology transformation. As the Staff Engineer of SRE, you will play a pivotal leadership role in shaping the reliability, scalability, and performance of mission-critical applications within the Advice Center and Branch Technology. You will set SRE standards and best practices, drive automation and process optimization, and oversee the management of application assets and cloud resources. Your expertise will be key in designing and implementing technical solutions, optimizing CI/CD pipelines, and establishing robust monitoring and alerting for GenAI-powered full-stack applications. This is an opportunity to lead innovation, support production excellence, and collaborate across teams to ensure the highest levels of application availability and operational effectiveness at RBC.
WHAT WILL YOU DO?
Provide SRE leadership at the squad level, establishing standards and best practices.
Review code and assess non-functional requirements (performance, security, maintainability) for all production SRE solutions.
Identify and implement automation opportunities to streamline processes.
Oversee application assets and user management, including virtual machines, cloud resources, and source code repositories.
Design, document, and publish technical solutions and implementation plans for SRE initiatives.
Research and evaluate emerging technologies, sharing insights and practical guidance to foster innovation.
Deliver production support, including off-hours coverage as required.
Support incident and problem management for relevant applications.
Lead post-incident reviews to drive continuous improvement and prevent recurrence.
Maintain technology currency through proactive server patching, certificate renewals, and automation.
Ensure application availability and uptime meet defined service level objectives.
WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED?
Must have:
Proven experience in full stack development, including hands-on expertise with React, Java, and Python.
Strong background in cloud technologies (such as AWS, Azure, or GCP), networking, and infrastructure as code (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation).
Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor technical teams, set standards, and drive SRE best practices.
Experience designing, implementing, and optimizing CI/CD pipelines and automating operational tasks.
Proficiency in monitoring, logging, and alerting tools (such as Dynatrace, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack, or similar).
Excellent problem-solving, troubleshooting, and incident management skills in complex, production environments.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally and influence stakeholders.
Deep understanding of security best practices, compliance, and building scalable, highly available, and resilient systems.
Commitment to continuous improvement and innovation.
Nice-to-have:
Experience with container orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes) and advanced observability practices.
Familiarity with regulatory requirements and security frameworks relevant to financial services.
Experience leading post-incident reviews and driving process improvements.
Strategic thinking and strong interpersonal skills to collaborate across functions and businesses
