What is the opportunity?
You will provide strategic leadership of the Global Credit – Ratings & Monitoring team which provides credit management and analytic support for RBC’s Capital Markets lending business.
R&M is a key functional partner to Corporate Banking and GRM Wholesale Credit, serving as a primary point of ratings contact for ratings actions, providing effective risk assessment, credit analysis, and continuous monitoring of assigned portfolios. Responsibilities include providing credit opinions and in-depth analysis via Risk Assessment Frameworks (RAFs), analyzing significant credit events via interim reviews and credit comments, providing pro forma ratings evaluations as needed, ongoing monitoring of company/sector performance and covenant breaches, and early detection of high-risk accounts and deteriorating credit situations.
What will you do?
- Lead and develop a global team of high performing VPs, Associates and Analysts responsible for continuous credit monitoring and risk assessment while maintaining sound risk management principles & supporting business growth.
- Provide oversight and lead by example in managing assigned portfolio including ensuring continuous credit oversight through monthly/quarterly monitoring and borrowing base assessments and the timely and accurate completion of annual risk assessments (RAFs) and credit comments as required. Identification and assessment of the team’s portfolio with particular attention to deteriorating situations and taking a view on the credit and borrower risks and recommending a course of action to partners in the Business and GRM, as appropriate.
- Acts as focal point for identifying and resolving policy and process issues. Keep up with policy changes/updates and manage regulatory/audit priorities, as identified. Conduct necessary spot checks to ensure quality of work and identify learning opportunities.
- Participate in internal committees providing credit and related business oversight, as appropriate. Drive collaboration within the R&M function, with other groups within Global Credit, the front office and functional partners. Identify and deliver efficiencies.
- Oversee an effective recruiting and training program, managing team resources to plan. Foster continual training of staff to uphold R&M as a center of excellence for credit and for providing seamless support to our business partners.
- Provide regular feedback and coaching on employee performance and progress against goals, including career conversations. Support identification and development of high potential talent and provide differentiated developmental opportunities.
- Manage execution for one or more of the group’s core pillars (e.g. Analytics, Sustainability, Talent, Operating Resiliency).
What do you need to succeed?
Must-Have:
- A minimum of 10 plus years of lending, credit or risk management experience
- Strong background in banking generally
- Familiarity with Global Credit and RBC Capital Markets credit processes and loan agreements
- People management skills, strong leadership skills, ability to mentor and inspire
- Well-developed analytical instincts, entrepreneurial and growth mindset, excellent written and communication skills
- Strong team orientation and intellectual curiosity, highly collaborative and process oriented
- Ability to operate in a dynamic environment
- Highly proficient Excel/Word/PowerPoint and database application skills
- Academic background of some combination of a Master’s level accreditation, usually an MBA, CFA, CA or other professional designation preferred
