What is the opportunity?

This role focuses on strategically managing and optimizing the company's balance sheet to maximize profitability and efficiency. The incumbent will work closely alongside the Director on the Optimization function and Line of Business Management. Key responsibilities include analyzing balance sheet data, identifying areas for improvement, developing and implementing balance sheet optimization strategies, and collaborating with other departments to ensure alignment. The incumbent plays a critical role in shaping our balance sheet strategy, ensuring a well-managed interest rate risk profile, and driving optimized treasury asset liability management practices. This role involves coordinating and supporting balance sheet management activities, including asset strategy implementation, risk management, and analysis. This position offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic team, contributing to the organization's success by managing asset liability risks. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience in financial services and risk management.

What you will do?

Balance Sheet Analytics & Optimization:

  • Analyzing balance sheet data, identifying trends, and generating reports to monitor performance and identify areas for improvement.
  • Develop and implement analytical frameworks for balance sheet optimization, ensuring efficient capital and liquidity deployment.
  • Provide key insights on balance sheet vulnerabilities, capital allocation strategies, and liquidity buffers.
  • Perform simulations using statistical methods to assess the impact of adverse scenarios on the balance sheet.
  • Assess the effectiveness of financial instruments in mitigating balance sheet risks.
  • Support interest rate risk, funding, and capital efficiency strategies.
  • Assist in the optimization of stress test models for balance sheet risk, capital adequacy, and liquidity, simulating adverse market conditions and regulatory scenarios.
  • Identify and execute strategies to optimize the bank’s balance sheet, enhancing funding efficiency, capital utilization, and profitability while adhering to regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including Risk, Finance, and ALM (Asset Liability Management), to incorporate regulatory requirements, market trends, and internal objectives.

Performance Monitoring:

  • Tracking key balance sheet metrics and identifying areas where further optimization is needed.
  • Provide actionable insights and recommendations to senior leadership on key treasury risks, including interest rate risk, investment portfolio performance, and balance sheet management.

Process Improvement:

  • Identifying and implementing process improvements to enhance balance sheet efficiency and reduce costs.

Strategic Planning and Implementation:

  • Developing and implementing balance sheet optimization strategies, including initiatives related to liquidity management, funding costs, and capital allocation.
  • Maintain RBC’s leadership in the area of balance sheet modeling, optimization and management through constant learning and innovation, providing the company with an efficient framework allowing decisions to be made quickly with accountability anchored appropriately.

Project and Business Management:

  • Manage complex cross functional projects with senior management stakeholders.
  • Support change agenda across entities/platform, ensuring changes are implemented with the appropriate governance in line with Enterprise and local standards.
  • Identify opportunities and implement projects to create process improvement and simplification

Expertise and Stakeholder Management:

  • Strong knowledge of key business profiles and regulatory requirements of all Caribbean legal entities and platforms and Corporate Treasury impact on them.
  • To partner with platforms on strategic initiatives and ensure Corporate Treasury impacts are fully assessed and implemented.
  • Stakeholder management with senior management across Finance, Risk Management, Tax, Legal and other key functions.
  • Represent Corporate Treasury in local governance forums (steering committees).

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Work with various stakeholders, including Treasury, Finance, Risk Management, Legal and business units, to align on balance sheet optimization goals and ensure effective implementation.
  • Identify and promote cross training and upskill members of the wider team.
  • Support additional projects and ad-hoc requests.

Risk Management:

  • Assessing and managing balance sheet-related risks, including liquidity risk, interest rate risk, and credit risk.

Compliance:

  • Ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and internal policies related to balance sheet management.
  • Stay informed about market trends, regulatory changes, and emerging risks, and adjusting strategies proactively to maintain resilience and compliance.

What you need to succeed?

Must Have

  • Graduate degree in Business Management, Mathematics, Statistics, Financial Risk Management, Economics or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of experience in treasury/risk management.
  • Knowledge and experience with robust data infrastructure of model development and analytics.
  • A thorough understanding of interest rate risk concepts and A/L management.
  • Demonstrated analytical ability.
  • Strong understanding of off-balance sheet transactions, particularly hedging with derivatives.
  • Sound knowledge of banking statutes and legislation for Caribbean and international jurisdictions.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of financial and economic trends in the local, regional and international markets.
  • Proven ability to deal in multi-jurisdictions with numerous regulators.
  • Proven ability to understand and analyze market and financial information and the dynamics of strategy formulation.
  • Proven experience and strong overall understating of CT activities, operations and linkages with other teams.
  • Proven ability to interact with senior leaders.
  • Experience presenting to senior management and committees.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Good knowledge of all facets of banking and the bank’s products.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize demands from internal and external stakeholders.
