What is the opportunity?

The primary objective of this role is to provide leadership of the Lending Services Unit Financial Control team for ensuring the integrity of our financial records through oversight of various daily and monthly complex reconciliations activities between our loan system (ACBS) and General Ledger for Capital Markets Loans.

What will you do?

  • Internal/External Audit: Ensuring our key controls are in place and we work with auditors to ensure we are complying within risk guidelines especially for applications profiles that are different between the groups. *** We identify areas of opportunity and operational efficiency, operational risk mitigation and actively assists in the implementation of risk mitigating solutions.
  • Relationship Management: The key contact with CM Financial Control and CM Product Control teams for signoff of GL accounts. Works with multiple groups including Lending Services and Portfolio Change Management for escalations of any GL account variances.
  • Projects/Process Improvement: Responsible for the implementation and execution of high impact and cross-functional projects which impact UFC processes. Acts as key contact for the department in liaison with other IT groups in BCS and/or QTS.
  • Training: Continuing education training and/or Technology and Process changes. Responsible for ensuring staff are up-to-date on required and suggested certifications.
  • Identify gaps in UFC processes and provide detailed recommendations to the Manager for consideration; lead the implementation of process changes.
  • Key contact for UFC escalations with other business partners (Financial Control, Treasury, CMRG, and Senior Management) and internal auditors (SOX Reviews).
  • Back-up approver for SODs, and PEGA attestation
  • Delegate for Manager, Operations during vacations and other absences and assists with the development of the assigned team including (i) demonstrating and promoting a continuous improvement mindset; (ii) delivering best in class service to internal and external clients; (iii) supporting staff and keeping them focused on business priorities and deliverables.
  • Provides input to Manager. Operations over all operational aspects related to UFC processes: i) providing expert advice on impact (material, reporting, etc) (ii) proactively identifying operational and reputational risk (iii) proactively identifying and recommending opportunities for continuous improvement activities or enhanced controls and lead the implementation of any new/enhanced controls.
  • Review and update the team’s documentation and procedures.
  • Training new analysts – assists in the preparation of the training schedule and conducts on the job training
  • Strictly adhere to Operating Guidelines for all reconciliation, reporting activities, independently solve complex investigations and ensure timely resolution of all outstanding issues (particularly at month end).
  • Ensures all G/L accounts are reconciled appropriately and then any exceptions are followed up and resolved
  • Ensures monthly SOD packages are properly prepared and signed off as per policy requirements
  • Solve complex investigations independently using good judgment and analytical thinking
  • Complete monthly/quarterly/annual reporting within established timelines
  • Develop and issue monthly management metrics reporting as required
  • Identify opportunities to mitigate risk and minimize revenue leakage
  • Identify and recommend opportunities to streamline processes and or eliminate non value added activities
  • Improve the “Operating Guidelines” continuously with the objective is to have a clear, concise and robust document with job aids and tool guides
  • Provide day to day support to the team by assuming all colleagues functions in their absence and/or rotations designed to keep skills current
