What is the opportunity?

As part of the Shared Services Malaysia (SSM) General Management Office, the job holder is responsible for supporting SSM senior management to manage and deliver business activities and initiatives for RBC SSM. Working closely with the General Manager and the Malaysia Operating Committee, the incumbent will be responsible for maintaining overall Malaysia level KPIs and Management Information, developing a rolling plan of SSM activities e.g. (new teams/executive visits/events etc) and working closely with sending location projects teams in onboarding of new/extension of existing teams. Acting as a connector across Malaysia business units the incumbent will work closely with senior management and functional groups to help co-ordinate actions and track progress against Malaysia strategy.

What will you do?

You will be responsible for the administration of a portfolio of borrowers, which includes multinational and other large corporate lending relationships. Your key responsibilities will include:

Business Management and Performance:

  • Work with the General Manager, Operating Committee and Board of Directors to ensure alignment of strategic priorities across Malaysia.
  • Serve as a conduit, fostering effective communication and collaboration to ensure delivery of business goals and objectives for SSM.
  • Create and continually develop KPIs/MI and other metrics for SSM to effectively measure performance and provide timely reporting & feedback to senior stakeholders
  • Develop analytics and modelling to ensure clarity of reporting on performance, identification of trends and recommendations for improvements including reporting/context on trends
  • Act as an escalation point for problem resolution
  • Prepare accurate, timely documentation and strive to constantly improve reporting delivery for SMT, MOC and Board presentations

Planning and Initiatives Management:

  • Actively engage on business initiatives involving SSM
  • Work closely with the Business Transformation Group and sending locations to ensure alignment on FTE numbers, desk allocation and overall office space is up to date
  • Develop and maintain a consolidated plan for SSM of all activities/events/visits/initiatives for MOC/SMT/SSM Board
  • Demonstrate a prudent balance of good governance, business controls and process whilst working in an agile and dynamic way
  • Support key relationships with partners to ensure clear and constructive communication with all stakeholders.

Strategy:

  • Work with the General Manager SSM to develop and maintain the SSM strategy
  • Provide updates and reports on overall performance for SSM vs stated strategy on a regular basis.
  • Provide thought leadership that help shapes ideas and help develop the SSM internal strategy taking into account implications to business models and risk & controls
  • Help to drive consensus on priorities, approaches and outcomes
  • Identify and translate key drivers of business strategy to deliver fully functional, effective and efficient solutions

Compliance, Risk & Work Health And Safety Responsibilities:

If you witness a breach, or potential breach, of any kind, you have an obligation to speak up and immediately raise your concern to senior management or a monitoring function, such as Compliance, Risk Management or Human Resources.
  • Proactively identify operational risks/ control deficiencies in the business.
  • Escalate operational risk loss events, control deficiencies and risks that you identify to your line manager and the relevant risk and control functions on a timely basis.

Working as part of a centralized team supporting different regions will entail being flexible around work timings to enable required engagement with functional and global stakeholders (e.g., this may typically mean attending early morning or late evening/night meetings some days of the week). A greater overlap with stakeholders in Canada will be required initially whilst the job holder is still under training (typically end of shift at 8pm or 9pm). Where business demands require adapting the working shift to enable a greater overlap with the regions being supported, the department lead will work with the team members to formalize this arrangement.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have:

  • Relevant degree or formal business qualification
  • General experience of Shared Services businesses and operations
  • Some experience in Business Management, Planning, Transformation / Project Management / Business Analysis and good understanding of risk
  • Good level of presentation skills and presence; effective relationship management at business and functional levels
  • Ability to work with diverse stakeholders aligned with strong emotional intelligence; maturity and commercial acumen
  • Ability and interest to work in a team-based and collegial environment where consensus-building is a key to success
  • Demonstrable business and financial acumen, insight into business trends,
  • Help to shape thinking and provides input into delivering creative solutions

Nice to have:

  • Good level of presentation skills and presence; effective relationship management with senior stakeholders
  • Ability to work with and collaborate with diverse stakeholders
  • Ability to work in a team-based and collegial environment where consensus-building is a key to success
  • Proactive contributor to help shape thinking and develop creative solutions
  • Good analytical skills with ability to analyse root cause and apply context to performance metrics and MI.
  • Strong understanding of KPI production, experience of planning, basic project management/business analysis
