What is the opportunity?

Manager will be expected to Manage the Tax Operations Onboarding Team within RBC Capital Markets and provide Tax Operations Regulatory Subject Matter Expertise within a global framework, covering a broad base of products and services. Responsibilities include the management of Tax Operations Onboarding Team functions related to the collection and review of tax documentation for multiple Tax Regimes. This team will be aligned with other functional units within RBC CM that currently support RBC CMs businesses, and roll-up within the wider Client Shared Services Team (CST)

What will you do?

  • Ensure the local compliance of RBC tax obligations through the Overseeing of the timely and accurate Tax Onboarding of Clients to RBC Capital Markets in respect to in-scope Tax Regulations administered by the function Tax Operations Team.
  • Manage the day to day activities of the Tax Onboarding Team for RBC CM business Units, which includes, but not limited to, the timely and accurate indexing of tax obligations in TORC (Tax Operations Regulatory Control) resulting from the identification of new client, product, account and agreements by CM Tax Operations.
  • Oversee the outreach to clients to obtain valid and up to date tax documents, self-certifications, public documents and cure documents as necessary for successful completion of Tax Onboarding.
  • Manage the relationship of third party tax form repositories and service providers to obtain tax documentation, raising new requests and maintaining open documentation collection cases.
  • Oversee the facilitation of the collaboration and escalation between CM Tax Ops and client/counterparties, expediting issues while ensuring the management of expectation between groups reliant on tax document itself and associated validity status.
  • Maintain clear and accurate audit status in respect to the sequence and frequency of the outreach and follow-ups, including evidence of the dates, persons and communications undertaken.
  • Oversee the initial cursory review of tax forms to ensure that they meet preliminary validation standards including the completeness of fields, form version & type, ensuring signed and dated. Returning forms to clients if immediate issues identified and sending to Tax Ops for further regulatory review.
  • Work with Tax Operations, ensuring priorities are constantly being maintained in TORC Function Tasks with the correct focus being applied on Outreach efforts based on Tax Regulatory exposure and risk.
  • Oversee the tax documentation remediation outreach activities, to obtain updated valid tax documents from clients based on Tax Operations identification of expired tax documents, GIIN verification fall-out and Change in Circumstances, working within CM Tax Ops prescribed regulatory calendar periods.
  • Establish a best practice approach in ensuring that clients, counterparties and internal business partners receive appropriate attention and that all queries are responded to and resolved in a timely fashion.
  • Production and presentation of required KPIs and KRIs metrics utilized in measurement of performance and risk against SLAs with CM Tax Ops and associated Control Framework, conduct monthly progress and trend analysis meetings with CM Tax Ops.
  • Production and presentation of required evidence, sample packs and walkthroughs utilized in Tax Ops Controls Testing, Responsible Officer Attestations, Regulatory Certifications and Internal/External Audits
  • Work to ensure that all projects raised internally, PCM and QTS are supported by the team and delivered to the best abilities of the team, including system testing.
  • Ensure team, and related processes are kept up to date with changing tax regimes as they apply to RBC CM businesses and clients.
  • Part-take in new business initiatives and new system initiatives, and ensure impacts are thoroughly assessed with CM Tax Ops, as well as policies and procedures are incorporated/updated.
  • Provide support to staff and develop individual team by creating individual objectives, reviewing performance and training requirements, with a view of targeting deficiencies and developing skills.
  • Participate in regular talent reviews, providing feedback each quarter to Management, with focus on succession planning.

What you need to succeed?

Must have’s

  • University Degree with a Financial or Economic sector. (Preferrable)
  • 3-5 Years Management experience within an Operations environment of a financial institution.
  • Strong Foundational knowledge of Capital Markets products, business/market practices and trading strategies across various asset and instrument class types.
  • Familiarity in respect to Entity structures and knowledge of RBC Business relationships & capacities that drive different jurisdictional tax responsibilities & requirements.
  • Demonstrated history of managing relationships in a high-pressured environment.
  • Strong knowledge of US and other Jurisdictional withholding and information reporting regulations.
  • Good working knowledge of Capital Markets products and transaction types and related importance concerning US Tax Documentation.
