What is the opportunity?
This role has primary responsibility for overseeing the market risk arising out of select RBC Capital Markets, Europe businesses.
These businesses include Debt Capital Markets, Treasury Services, Spread (Investment Grade and Leveraged Credit), Fixed Income Repo and Flow Rates Europe.
The incumbent will lead a team of risk manager(s)/risk analyst(s) to promote a Best of Class risk oversight environment, developing the team and providing opportunities for growth.
They will be expected to lead and introduce processes/system improvements as necessary to ensure GRM Market Risk remains aligned with the growing and evolving business model within Europe.
Leadership / influence /consensus-building skills and vision are required.
What will you do?
Risk Oversight and Analytics
Lead and develop a team by setting direction, driving change, and generating new ideas, while mastering the technical details (models, parameters, and Greeks) of products in scope for business lines covered.
Demonstrate expertise in Rates/Credit products and the markets in which they trade.
Lead the market risk reporting processes and ensure timely and accurate reporting of all relevant risk metrics by the team.
Oversee improvements in daily risk reporting tasks using a combination of VBA/SQL/Python programming languages.
Pro-actively update senior stakeholders on market developments, book-size/composition changes, and risk dynamics, including at senior risk forums and regional or global MCCR meetings
Produce clear analysis for consumption by senior management, including technical memos and committee/forum participation.
Provide quantitative analysis and recommendations regarding new products and trading strategies to ensure they are in line with RBC Capital Markets risk tolerance and appetite (New Business Committee/Supplemental Pool).
Demonstrate a strong understanding of MCCR policies and procedures, along with Enterprise Market Risk system connectivity and data flow for all trading desks covered.
Limit Monitoring
Ensure all relevant risk metrics are monitored through the current reporting process. This includes a deep understanding of stress scenarios to ensure all risk metrics are appropriately shocked.
Ensure all trading and banking books under each desk is captured in risk reporting as appropriate.
Ensure all limit breaches are investigated, tracked and reported.
Work with trading to ensure adherence to bank risk appetite, including limits and compliance with limit framework.
Provides senior management with analysis and recommendation on any risk limit extensions.
Risk Measurement
Lead the LMR team in the transition of risk reports to new technology platforms (RiskMod) for relevant desks.
What do you need to succeed?
Must have:
A strong quantitative degree or similar/equivalent.
Expert knowledge of Interest Rate and Credit Derivatives.
Deep experience working in European Rates and Credit markets.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Able to articulate ideas, thought processes and recommendations confidently and rationally to senior audiences.
Proficient in VBA/C++/Python.
Strong experience working in a technical market risk function or similar, with experience in:
1. Value-at-Risk measurement
2. Stress testing and scenario analysis
3. Greeks Sensitivity analysis.
