VP, Finance - 1 Year Contract

How does the role impact the organization?

Raymond James Ltd. is seeking a qualified CPA to work in our downtown Vancouver office. Raymond James Ltd., (“RJL”) is one of Canada’s leading independent investment dealers offering high quality investment products and services to Canadians seeking customized solutions to their wealth management needs. Reporting to the VP Controller, the VP Finance is responsible for full-cycle accounting functions, financial statement preparation and audit management of RJL; as needed basis, they will also support the accounting functions of the subsidiaries of RJL. This position is responsible for regulatory reporting to CIRO; when supporting the subsidiaries, FINRA, OSFI, and the BC Securities Commission regulation is involved. The VP Finance will collaborate with other Managers of the Finance Department to ensure that consolidated financial reporting is timely and accurate.

What will your role be responsible for?

  • Produce accurate and timely Consolidated Financial Statements;
  • Assist with the preparation of subsidiary financial statements, as needed:
  • Be responsible for regulatory reporting and regulatory capital calculations of RJL and assist in regulatory reporting of the subsidiary companies;
  • Establish controls over the G/L ensuring integrity of data and reporting;
  • Oversee the integrity of software systems {Multiview, DSL) that are foundation for GIL and reporting;
  • Manage and review general ledger reconciliations;
  • Ensure financial statements are compliant with IFRS, US GAAP and Company policy;
  • Develop and maintain an understanding of regulations as they apply to RJL and subsidiaries;
  • Work with other Finance Management to optimize staff time and streamline processes to increase the efficiencies of the accounting group;
  • Mentor the Manager Finance, manage staff and provide direction and guidance;
  • Manage the relationship with internal and external auditors; and
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

What do we expect from you?

To qualify for this opportunity you possess:

Knowledge of

  • In depth knowledge of CIRO rules

Skill in

  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Proven skills successfully managing and mentoring teams; and
  • Strong technical IFRS/US GAAP accounting, tax and internal control knowledge skills;

Ability to

  • Fundamental investment concepts, practices, and procedures used in the securities industry;
  • Work within deadlines in a high-volume and demanding environment while maintaining a high level of service and an imperative attention to detail;
  • Demonstrate email, videoconferencing, and telephone etiquette and relationship management skills;

Educational / Previous Experience Requirements

  • CPA designation with public practice experience;
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in progressive leadership roles within accounting;
  • Experience in the financial services industry;
  • In-Depth Broker Dealers course and/or FINRA S27 Fin Ops Principal completion is preferred;
  • Basel Ill knowledge is an asset; and
  • Fluency in French is an asset;
