Business Development Manager, Life Insurance (Eastern Region)

How does the role impact the organization?

The Business Development Manager (BDM) is responsible for the promotion and building of insurance sales through relationship management, training, coaching, direction, knowledge application and leveraging internal and external resources. Using your strong communication skills and proactive approach, you'll drive and support sales in your region. Under minimal supervision, you will work individually and as part of a team to you'll build and maintain relationships with Financial Advisors, Branch Managers, and Insurance Specialists to increase insurance sales activity and achieve their business goals. End results are evaluated for achieving goals and objectives.

What will your role be responsible for?

  • Drive insurance sales within the assigned region.
  • Grow awareness of insurance solutions through strategic initiatives, marketing campaigns, and promotion.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with Financial Advisors and their team, Branch Managers, and Insurance Specialists.
  • Train/Coach Financial Advisors and their team on insurance solutions at various competency levels.
  • Assist in new advisors onboarding.
  • Collaborate with Head Office on insurance initiatives to the field.
  • Develop, maintain, promote, and align relationships with carrier wholesalers within the assigned region.
  • Build and maintain relationships with other business units, inclusive of Private Client Solutions, to help maintain the strategic partnership, direction and coordinated approach of Total Wealth Solutions.
  • Stay informed on firm and department business as well as life insurance market and competitive landscape -- industry changes, trends, process improvement techniques, methodologies and best practices.
  • Report weekly/monthly pertaining to daily activities, advisor contact, presentations conducted, pipeline and sales results.
  • Comply with company policies and external regulations.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

What do we expect from you?

  • Advanced knowledge of life insurance products, solutions, and planning strategies.
  • Strong understanding of the financial services industry, competitive market, and regulatory environments.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong presentation and communication skills in both virtual and in-person settings.
  • Excellent time management and self-management skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of life insurance sales processes and insurance operations.
  • Working knowledge of insurance carrier software.
  • Experience with financial planning software.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal oversight.
  • Ability travel within the assigned region required.
  • Ability to track and evaluate sales results against plans.
  • Proficiency in both English and French (spoken and written) is an asset.
  • Practical knowledge of MS Office software, such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Educational/Previous Experience Requirements:

  • 5+ years in insurance sales management, or sales and marketing of insurance products.

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Must hold a current Life Insurance (including Accident & Sickness) license in good standing.
  • Industry Designation: CFP, CLU, or Ch.F.C. designation (or working towards it).
