Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled data analyst with 7+ years of experience in
developing and managing product taxonomies and attributes within the product
information management/e-commerce environment. The ideal candidate will be
responsible for creating intuitive and scalable taxonomies that enhance product
discoverability, improve search and navigation, and elevate overall user experience.
This role requires a strategic thinker who can translate complex product data into
meaningful classifications across diverse categories, including MRO, HVAC, and
Electronics. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to align taxonomy
design with business goals, customer behavior, and marketplace requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Design, build, and manage product taxonomies and attributes in product
information management/e-commerce environment that improve product
findability, relevance, and conversion.
2. Research and define category hierarchies and product attribute frameworks
that reflect how customers search, browse, and compare products online.
3. Analyze customer behavior and search data to identify opportunities for
taxonomy and attribute optimization that enhance the user journey.
4. Develop and maintain structured metadata, ensuring accuracy, consistency,
and scalability across brands and product verticals.
5. Collaborate with business, content, and technical teams to ensure taxonomies
support search optimization, product mapping, and personalization strategies.
6. Transform unstructured data and user-generated content into standardized,
structured taxonomies and attribute sets.
7. Audit, measure, and refine taxonomy effectiveness using analytics and
performance metrics.
8. Document taxonomy standards, governance processes, and naming
conventions to ensure long-term maintainability.
Required Experience & Expertise:
1. 7+ years of experience in taxonomy development, attribute design/modeling,
and product data classification, preferably within an e-commerce or PIM
environment.
2. Proven experience in building product classifications and attributes that
enhance customer experience and product discoverability.
3. Strong understanding of product data management (PIM), catalog structuring,
and search optimization principles.
4. Experience collaborating with UX, content strategy, and product teams to
align taxonomy with customer journey and search behavior.
5. Demonstrated ability to create taxonomies from business and user
requirements, balancing technical scalability with usability.
6. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret data
insights to guide taxonomy improvements.
7. Experience using taxonomy management or metadata governance tools (e.g.,
PoolParty, Synaptica, SmartLogic, TopBraid, etc.) is a plus.
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Information Science, Library Science, Data
Management, or experience in a related field.
2. Proven experience in planning and developing structured metadata for large-
scale product catalogs.
3. Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively across
multiple teams and stakeholders.
4. Ability to operate in a fast-paced, flat organization with minimal supervision
and high accountability.
