Job Summary:

The Senior Leasing Law Clerk is responsible for managing Pet Valu’s high-volume lease renewal portfolio. This role involves overseeing lease renewals, negotiating lease extensions, preparing and presenting proposals, and assisting with various leasing transactions. The Senior Leasing Law Clerk collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment with business objectives and compliance with legal requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage Pet Valu’s high-volume lease renewal portfolio, including tracking key dates and maintaining accurate reports, preparing renewal documentation, and ensuring timely execution.
  • Negotiate lease extension agreements with landlords, including fair market rent terms, in consultation with brokers and internal stakeholders.
  • Prepare and present lease renewal proposals and supporting slide decks to the Real Estate Committee for approval.
  • Assist with other leasing transactions such as new leases, store expansions, relocations, and surrenders.
  • Draft, review, and finalize a variety of leasing documents including offers to lease, amending agreements, estoppels, and related correspondence.
  • Liaise with landlords, brokers, and internal departments to facilitate lease negotiations and ensure alignment with business objectives.
  • Provide interpretation and analysis of lease provisions and related agreements.
  • Other duties as assigned from time to time.
  • This position is often privy to confidential and sensitive information and, as such, requires diplomacy, discretion, and a high level of professionalism.

Qualifications:

  • College Law Clerk diploma or equivalent legal training.
  • 5–7 years of experience as a leasing clerk in a reputable company or law firm, with a focus on commercial leasing.
  • Tenant-side leasing experience in retail sector is considered a strong asset.
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with lease administration systems such as CoStar is an asset.
