Job Description:
The Instructional Design Specialist is primarily responsible for developing and designing interactive blended learning programs, multi-media and other tools that align with organizational training needs, requirements and/or processes.
This role is based in Ontario and follows a hybrid working model. You will occasionally be required to work from both our Brampton Distribution Centre and our Markham Head Office.
Essential Details and Responsibilities
- Assess and identify training needs aligned with business objectives.
- Collaborate with various stakeholders to understand business needs in training applications and learning programs.
- Work with training managers to confirm course specifications and resolves gaps.
- Collaborate with vendors to assist with designing and developing interactive training applications and learning programs.
- Design and develop interactive eLearning solutions using a variety of software.
- Be the champion for accessibility (AODA) compliance and course consistency.
- Lead Learning projects with cross-functional teams to create engaging blended learning for all learners, which is effective in a variety of work environments including store, distribution centre, office and virtual.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with various stakeholders and subject matter experts across Pet Retail Brands with the goal of identifying new training opportunities, updating existing content and provide consultative guidance for SME led training.
- Self-starter able to manage competing priorities and deliver projects in a fast paced changing environment.
- Lead the charge to include gamification and interactivity for the learner.
- Update job aids, facilitator guides, classroom slides, student guides, and on-the-job training material.
- Develop and update proprietary training e-learning/video content and material, this includes training on processes, products, areas of expertise and more.
- Maintain a strong understanding of the pet industry and demonstrate working knowledge of training best practices, trends and adult learning principles.
Experience, Education, Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- 2-5 years of proven work experience in instructional design and eLearning development.
- 2+ years of experience using ADDIE to develop and implement training programs.
- Strong knowledge of the Microsoft suite of products (i.e., PowerPoint, Excel, Word, etc.)
- Strong knowledge of course development software, such as Articulate Storyline, Adobe Captivate, Rise and Evolve
- Experience designing and editing with graphic media tools, video, audio animation/motion graphics and simulations
- Experience building virtual instructor led sessions and classroom training materials an asset.
- Expert knowledge of current trends in training and adult learning.
- CTDP or equivalent is an asset.
