Job Summary

Pet Valu Canada is seeking an innovative and strategic Vice President of Pricing and Promotions. This role will have full ownership of promotional planning, execution, and delivery, including strategy, insights, analytics, and optimization for offers and events. Working collaboratively with Category Merchandising, Marketing, Digital, and Operations teams, the VP will ensure sales, profit, and market share are maximized across all categories. This leader will also own the merchandising systems for pricing and promotions to maintain proper setup, strategy, and continuous improvement

Key Responsibilities:

  • Full Ownership of Promotional Planning, Execution, and Delivery:
    Develop, execute, and optimize promotional strategies in collaboration with Category Merchandising, Marketing, and Operations teams. Conduct post-event analytics to identify key insights and recommend actionable improvements for future promotions.
  • Merchandising Systems Ownership – Pricing & Promotions Focus:
    Lead and manage merchandising systems specific to pricing and promotions, ensuring strategic setup and continuous optimization. Ensure the systems function efficiently with no involvement in assortment-related matters.
  • MFP (Merchandising Financial Planning) Lead:
    Lead the Merchandising Financial Planning (MFP) initiatives, ensuring that pricing and promotional efforts are aligned with broader financial goals.
  • Program Mapping & Execution:
    Oversee the planning and mapping of comprehensive store promotional programs, ensuring that all elements are cohesive and align with overall merchandising strategy. Manage forecasting issues and work collaboratively with Category Merchandising teams to proactively address any challenges.
  • Flyer Management:
    Co-lead the flyer program alongside the Marketing team, managing production, layout design, budgeting, and financial performance tracking. Ensure flyer content is aligned with promotional campaigns and financial objectives.
  • Customer and Competitor Insights:
    Leverage customer and competitive data to provide actionable insights that inform promotional strategies. Regularly analyze market trends, customer preferences, and competitor actions to make strategic adjustments.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration:
    Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including Category Merchandising, Marketing, Digital, and Operations, to support the successful launch of new programs, seasonal changes, and other key merchandising events.
  • Team Leadership and Development:
    Mentor, coach, and develop direct reports, fostering a high-performance, results-oriented culture. Lead succession planning efforts and provide training opportunities to support career development. Ensure the team is empowered with the skills and tools needed to drive successful pricing and promotions strategies.

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in retail, with a proven track record in pricing, promotions, and retail merchandising. Demonstrated success in developing and executing pricing strategies that drive profitability and market share growth.
  • Data Analytics:

Deep expertise in pricing and promotional data analytics, with proven experience in system optimization for pricing and promotions. Ability to leverage data-driven insights to adjust promotional strategies and maximize effectiveness.

  • Leadership Skills:

Strong leadership, mentoring, and collaboration skills, with experience managing cross-functional teams. Proven ability to lead high-performance teams while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and accountability.

  • Market Insight:

Solid understanding of competitive landscapes and market trends, with the ability to incorporate this knowledge into strategic pricing and promotional decisions that give the company a competitive edge.

  • Education:

Post-secondary education in Business, Marketing, or a related field (university or accredited college) or equivalent experience. MBA is preferred but not required.
