Board Solutions is a central team within NXP’s GOE organization responsible for design, manufacturing, compliance and supply chain operations of hardware boards. The organization provides hardware solutions to all business units within NXP through its global presence in North America, Europe, and Asia. Board types include customer reference design, silicon validation, failure analysis, and reliability applications.

The team is looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to design and implement high quality, robust, and state of the art hardware for a wide range of businesses and targeted verticals. The individual is responsible for all aspects of the product from the R&D design stage, production support, and sustaining engineering as needed for Mechanical activities.

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer with extensive experience in new product engineering and implementation at both PCBA and mechanical levels. The role requires hands-on expertise in DUT socket development also, strong cross-functional coordination, and deep knowledge of EMS, IPC, and ISO standards. The candidate will drive product readiness from concept through manufacturing and sustaining engineering.

In this position, the candidate will also be responsible for driving ensuring the design solutions are consistent with the company strategy, commitments and goals. The position is based out of the India and the individual will work in conjunction with our other design centers in Romania, Mexico, China, and US to ensure high quality solutions realized for our end customers.

Job responsibilities:

  • Lead new product engineering and implementation at PCBA and mechanical levels
  • Develop and implement DUT sockets as part of product design
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external cross-functional teams
  • Review RFQs, project timelines, and safety standards
  • Ensure compliance with IPC standards relevant to product requirements
  • Create, maintain, and control procedures and documentation as per ISO standards
  • Apply strong analytical and problem-solving skills to engineering challenges
  • Strong understanding of mechanical production processes across various materials
  • Hands-on experience in 3D modeling (enclosures, fixtures, jigs) using SolidWorks
    (SolidWorks certification is an added advantage)
  • Perform DFM considering PCBA mating and enclosure assembly
  • Create, release, and publish BOMs to CM
  • Capture and manage DFM-related changes from suppliers
  • Review and approve alternate materials and manufacturing processes
  • Read, understand, and approve mechanical inspection reports, Create assembly, packing, and rework instructions.
  • Identify special mechanical components and define handling requirements
  • Generate 2D drawings from 3D models and communicate key specifications to suppliers
  • Select and specify surface finishes based on functional and cosmetic needs
  • Hands-on experience in socket development for NPI boards as per requirements.
  • Translate performance requirements from BL into robust socket designs
  • Understanding of thermal characteristics impacting socket performance and form factor
  • Ability to validate mechanical socket models with PCBA designs.
  • Thorough knowledge of EMS (Electronics Manufacturing Services)
  • Create, release, and publish BOMs to Contract Manufacturers (CM)
  • Review PCB layouts from an EMS manufacturing perspective
  • Identify and document special components and handling requirements
  • Establish assembly and soldering methods based on product criticality
  • Expected knowledge of IP requirements, conformal coating, and potting processes
  • Provide design expertise and regional support for BU silicon, application teams, and third parties as needed.

  • Debug and troubleshoot issues in lab as per need basis.
  • Coordination with suppliers, Engineering team for corrections and suggestion made at various stages.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a design team environment.
  • Improve core competency in mechanical design technologies.
  • Engage and provide consultation to external customers on mechanical design and best practices. Perform critical design reviews for key customer accounts as needed.
  • Excellent communication skills to work across business line partners.

Education and Experience:

  • Experience: 10+ years of relevant industry experience in Mechanical design, PCBA, and Product Engineering development.
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Electronics/Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • Proven experience working with EMS partners, contract manufacturers, and suppliers
  • Strong exposure to end-to-end product lifecycle management
  • Exposure and design experience in Consumer, Automotive, Networking, Wireless and/or Industrial applications is a plus.
  • Strong inter-personal and written & oral communication skills.
