NXP Semiconductors is seeking a highly motivated Electrical Engineering student to join our Package Innovation (PI) team in Nijmegen, the Netherlands. This internship offers a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge semiconductor packaging technologies through electrical modeling and RF lab measurements. About the Team

The Package Innovation (PI) group is part of NXP’s Corporate Technology Office (CTO) and is responsible for delivering advanced packaging solutions across NXP’s product portfolio. As an intern, you will support the development of high-performance semiconductor packages and contribute to RF characterization efforts in our Nijmegen lab.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze existing and emerging package technologies to support new product concepts.

  • Contribute to package development by addressing electrical requirements and documentation.

  • Perform electrical modeling and simulation of proposed package solutions.

  • Design test structures and develop techniques for characterizing electrical properties of current and future packaging materials.

  • Conduct RF measurements in the Nijmegen lab on test structures and dielectric materials.

  • Apply post-processing techniques for on-wafer characterization and de-embedding.

  • Utilize measurement techniques for material characterization.

  • Run optiSLang simulations and validate results against lab measurements.

  • Investigate fast-cycle manufacturing processes for on-wafer techniques (design to post-processing within days).

  • Analyze the impact of surface roughness and de-embedding accuracy at frequencies above 100 GHz.

Your Profile

  • Currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.

  • Strong foundation in Electromagnetics Theory (coursework or practical experience).

  • Experience with CAD design is a plus.

  • Proficient in RF lab practices and comfortable working in a Linux environment.

  • Advanced skills in MS Excel and general proficiency in MS Office.

  • Excellent problem-solving and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Fluent in English, both written and verbal.

Duration

Duration: 6 to 12 months. Commitment: Full-time (40 hours/week)This internship may also be suitable as a thesis or graduation project. Possibility to convert the internship into a full-time position on the future. Applicants must be enrolled as students for the entire duration of the internship.
