The Payroll Manager is responsible for the full lifecycle of German payroll processing, from monthly execution and validation to statutory reporting and audits. The role works closely with payroll vendors, Finance, HR, and internal stakeholders to ensure compliant, timely, and high-quality payroll services. The Payroll Manager also drives process improvements, supports payroll projects, and ensures a strong service culture for employees.

We are looking for a Payroll Manager to lead end-to-end German payroll operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and an excellent employee experience. This role owns payroll delivery, vendor management, audits, and continuous process improvements while acting as the main escalation point for payroll-related matters.
• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
• 10+ years of end-to-end German payroll experience.
• Strong knowledge of German payroll and tax legislation.
• Experience in mid-size to large multinational organizations.
• Fluent in English and German.
• Proactive team player with strong communication skills and a service-oriented mindset.
Payroll Operations
• Own end-to-end German payroll processing and payroll calendar management.
• Supervise monthly payroll preparation, validation, approvals, and salary releases.
• Ensure compliance with SOX controls, local legislation, and internal policies.
• Review payroll postings, accruals, and support Finance with clearing activities.
• Manage year-end payroll activities, tax filings, and employee tax forms.
• Analyze and implement legal or business changes impacting payroll processes.
• Support internal and external payroll audits and resolve discrepancies.
Vendor Management
• Manage payroll vendor performance through SLAs and KPIs.
• Lead service calls, provide feedback, and escalate issues when required.
• Review and approve payroll vendor invoices in coordination with Vendor Management.
Documentation, Projects & Employee Experience
• Maintain and improve payroll procedures in line with legislation and HR policies.
• Support payroll-related projects (requirements, testing, documentation, training).
• Act as the highest-level escalation point for payroll issues, ensuring service excellence.
