The role

This CS-2 position supports our Digital Technologies (DT) Research Centre. The incumbent would share our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity.

Come join our dynamic team in the Digital Technologies Research Centre at the National Research Council (NRC) as we embark on ground-breaking projects in Computer Vision and Graphics. You will work alongside colleagues who conduct applied research in three-dimensional (3D) imaging, including design of 3D imaging systems, data analytics, machine learning, big data visualization, and data-driven simulation. As a member of a team of software developers and researchers, you will contribute to the development of cutting edge imaging technologies for applications in various applications domains including healthcare, defense, manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Translate cutting edge computer vision and imaging research (including advanced numerical analysis) into client deployable software solutions
    Design, develop and test software code which meets specific user requirements and needs.
  • Support the design and implementation of low-level interfaces between data processing software and electro-optic sensor and other connected hardware.
  • Analyze performance and scalability issues and modify program and algorithms to resolve issues.

Screening criteria

Applicants must demonstrate within the content of their application that they meet the following screening criteria in order to be given further consideration as candidates:

Education

University degree in computer science, computer engineering, or related field.

Equivalency
A college with significant relevant experience may be considered as an equivalency for this position.

Experience

  • Experience implementing complex computer vision and image processing algoritms.
  • Experience with at least one client or research project developing solutions to complex problems in the domain of data analytics, security, computer vision or AI.
  • Experience in design, development, and implementation of algorithms.
  • Experience in multiple high- and low-level programming languages such as C/C++ and Python.
  • Experience with GPU programming and more specifically image processing.
  • Experience in deploying custom software at client sites (including clients in the same organization) would be considered an asset.
  • Experience interfacing software systems with hardware (e.g. controlling hardware using Arduino or through an embedded platform) would be considered an asset.

Technical competencies

  • Knowledge of implementing 3D computer vision or computer graphics tools using domain-specific packages.
  • Basic knowledge of analytics/AI development patterns.
  • Ability to program in languages such as C/C++ and Python for solving problems.
  • Knowledge of quality assurance processes, including unit, functional, and integration testing.
  • Ability to work in diverse team using modern software development tools (e.g. GitLab, GitHub) and methodologies.
  • Ability to implement GPU programming (CUDA, OpenCL, ROCm, etc.)

Compensation

From $86,503 to $108,068 per annum.


In addition, the incumbent will receive the Bilingualism Bonus of $800 per year.
