The role
We are seeking a skilled Applications System Administrator to manage and maintain Codes Canada’s Content Management System (CMS) and related services. This role involves ensuring the reliability, performance, and security of applications, servers, and supporting infrastructure.
As the Applications System Administrator, working under the general supervision of the Team Leader, Information Systems Unit, you will:
- Administer, plan, test, install, configure, and maintain Codes Canada’s systems, applications, and supporting services to ensure reliable, secure, and efficient operations.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders on system planning, development, and upgrades to support the effective delivery and continuous improvement of Codes Canada systems.
- Provide application and system support for Codes Canada projects and related initiatives to ensure systems remain functional, accessible, and aligned with operational needs.
- Provide technical advice, expertise and training to a range of internal and external users to support the effective use and implementation of systems, processes, and digital solutions.
- Act as a subject matter expert on applications, operating systems, systems development, and security standards to support informed decision-making.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues in collaboration with internal and external technical teams to minimize service disruptions and maintain system performance.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, including specifications, installation guides, and maintenance procedures to support system sustainability, knowledge transfer, and operational continuity.
- Evaluate and recommend new technologies, tools, and applications to improve system efficiency, security, and overall user experience.
Screening criteria
Applicants must demonstrate within the content of their application that they meet the following screening criteria in order to be given further consideration as candidates:
Education
Graduation from a two-year program of study from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in computer science, information technology, information management or another specialty relevant to the position to be staffed.
Relevant certifications like CompTIA Linux+, CISSP, or cloud platform (e.g. Microsoft Azure) could be considered assets.

Experience
- Significant and recent experience administering and supporting Unix-based environments.
- Significant and recent experience in installing or upgrading IT infrastructure operations and services, including installation and administration of Content Management Systems.
- Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining middleware and supporting programming modules.
- Experience implementing and maintaining system security, including SSL certificate configuration and management, system hardening, and access control.
- Experience providing technical guidance to internal and external stakeholders to resolve operational issues, support the implementation of IT changes, and develop technical documentation.
The following may be considered as assets:

Technical competencies
- Knowledge of Content Management Systems and their integration within enterprise environments.
- Knowledge in installing, configuring, and maintaining middleware components and supporting programming modules to ensure seamless application integration, optimal performance, and system reliability.
- Knowledge in installing, upgrading, and maintaining IT infrastructure services and systems, ensuring high availability, scalability, and alignment with NRC standards and operational requirements.
- Ability to administer and support Unix-based environments, including performing system installations, configurations, updates, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.
- Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve issues, while supporting the implementation of infrastructure changes and improvements.
- Ability to provide accurate technical documentation, including system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides, and provide technical advice and support to stakeholders.

Compensation
From $86,503 to $108,068 per annum.
