Overview:

Mitel is looking to recruit a Data Protection Expert (DPE) to help the Data Protection Department (DPD) meet its obligations under the European Union (EU) General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) as well as other data protection laws and regulations in which Mitel operates. Reporting directly to Mitel’s Group Data Protection Officer (DPO), the DPE will have a critical role within the Data Protection Department. This role requires a very good understanding of the global data protection regulatory landscape and the willingness to work in a complex international environment.

Responsibilities:

The DPE will help support, maintain, and execute Mitel’s data protection program and ensure compliance with the program requirements. The DPE is regarded as a subject matter expert within the organization and, as such, will serve as an internal advisor across all business functions.

Duties will include:

  • Participating in the development, improvement, and implementation of Mitel’s data protection program.

  • Supporting the business and key internal stakeholders in the review of projects and sales to ensure compliance with applicable data protection laws and regulations.

  • Managing Mitel’s data protection assessment program (DPIA, TIA, risk assessments, 3rd party assessments, etc.)

  • Implementing Mitel’s data protection risk management program and helping define risk mitigation strategies and implement risk mitigation measures.

  • Assisting the Group DPO with the DACH region market. The DPE is instrumental in helping and supporting sales with our medium and large customers.

  • Serving as a direct point of contact (POC) for the business and working on data protection-related issues, the DPE must be able to work with and collaborate with all business functions. e.g., HR, marketing, IT, and sales.

  • Monitoring changes globally to data protection laws and regulations and making the corresponding recommendations to the DPO.

  • Assisting with the development of new standards and guidelines as well as reviewing, monitoring, and improving Mitel’s internal policies and procedures.

  • Assisting with the development, implementation, and improvement of Mitel’s data protection governance strategies.

  • Helping with audits and communication with regulators and data protection authorities.

  • Working and collaborating with Mitel’s Legal department and outside counsel on data protection legal issues and assisting with reviewing contracts, including data protection-specific clauses.

Requirements:

  • German fluency is a requirement. (Only fluency or C2-equivalent-level candidates shall be considered.)

  • Law degree (preferred) or equivalent and relevant experience in relation to the job description and associated tasks and responsibilities.

  • 3 to 10 years’ experience within a compliance, legal, audit, and/or risk function, with recent experience in data protection compliance and operations. Experience working in a regulated industry (telecom preferred).

  • Experience in developing new policies and procedures.

  • Strong knowledge of EU data protection laws and regulations and a good understanding of other major relevant frameworks.

  • Curiosity in related fields such as AI, digital ethics, and new technologies.

  • Sufficient knowledge of IT standards and data management systems is required, and a good comprehension of frameworks such as ISO 27001 or NIST is a plus.

  • Well-developed interpersonal skills; ability to interact effectively with people at all organizational levels of the company.

  • Experience working in a global and international organization is welcomed, including managing different time zones.

  • Ability to work unsupervised and exercise leadership when needed

  • Excellent writing and presentation skills.

  • A detail-oriented approach is welcomed, as is the capacity to complete tasks with accuracy and confidence.

  • Strong management skills including the ability to manage time well, prioritize effectively, and handle multiple deadlines to overtake tasks and long-term projects until completion.

  • Creativity and a problem-solving mindset to find alternative solutions or think outside the box to implement and influence change.

  • Ability to use fair, balanced, and independent judgment when making decisions.

  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with the appropriate discretion.
