Job Description:
Microchip seeks an experienced attorney to provide strategic counsel on AI, cybersecurity, and data governance matters, including related compliance programs and transactions. This role requires a multidisciplinary background and strong understanding of laws and frameworks relating to AI, IP, cybersecurity, technical data, personal data, and contracting. Attorney will partner with business units, support groups, and Legal team to guide responsible AI innovation, adoption, and deployment as well as the company’s other data-driven initiatives.
Serve as subject matter expert on AI and data governance

Support and enhance compliance programs covering:
Cybersecurity
Data classification and governance
Export-controlled technical data and software
U.S. controlled unclassified information (CUI)
Develop and maintain practical resources such as guidelines, policies, procedures, assessments, and training.
Monitor and advise on emerging AI and data-related laws, industry frameworks, and technical standards.
Provide business-oriented counsel to internal stakeholders, including Business Units, Global Trade Compliance, HR, IT, Marketing, and Sales.
Provide contract support, as needed, involving AI and data-related platforms and services, such as SaaS and other cloud-based agreements
Requirements/Qualifications:
JD degree and admission in good standing in at least one state in the U.S.
10+ years relevant law firm and/or in-house experience

Demonstrated experience:
Developing and managing compliance programs
Advising on AI/ML products or services touching on regulatory, IP, cybersecurity, export control, privacy, and contracting principles
Drafting clear, implementable policies, guidelines, and training materials
Proven ability to explain complex issues clearly and provide actionable advice
Strong technical and business understanding of AI technologies (e.g., generative AI, machine learning, large language models), and hardware, software, or Saas services
Strong knowledge of global AI, privacy, and industry frameworks (e.g. EU AI Act, GDPR, NIST AI RMF)
Working knowledge of U.S. export controls (e.g., EAR, ITAR)
Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills, adaptable to diverse audiences
Excels at interacting regularly with senior leadership and delivering results in a dynamic, cross-functional environment
Strong project management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple matters and maintain attention to detail
Proven leadership or management experience
Collegial, adaptable, and business-focused, with sound judgment and the ability to manage initiatives and work effectively across global teams
Known for a collaborative, solution-oriented approach that builds trust with internal and external stakeholders
