Job Description:

We are Microchip’s Communications Business Unit (CBU), a premier supplier for 100Gbps+ networking and System on Chip (SoC) devices. We develop next-generation technologies that are revolutionizing communications and the Internet. Our award-winning products are used by major technology companies to enable high performance computing and high-bandwidth, cloud-based applications such as streaming services, social media platforms and video conferencing. We make it happen.

Our Business Unit is looking for an enthusiastic Technician to join our team as we validate, test, and support our leading-edge semiconductor devices. The Validation, Software, Applications and Product Engineering groups operate hundreds of hardware platforms on 25+ benches and racks across three labs. We require dynamic, versatile technicians who want to participate in manufacturing, bring up, and test of complete systems (circuit boards, ICs, firmware, and software). You will work with hardware platforms that include leading edge technologies such as Ethernet, PCI Express, FPGAs, fiber optics and 112Gbps SERDES, and RISC-V embedded processors under the guidance of design engineers. You will experience limitless learning and growth opportunities. Your work will add real value to Microchip’s products.

What we need:

  • Guide board builds through the whole flow including PCB manufacturing, kit procurement, and board assembly.

    • Purchase, assemble and audit board kits comprised of hundreds of components.

    • Coordinate track build processes with vendors.

  • Perform new board bring-up and debug as required.

  • Perform rework and modification (including soldering) of circuit boards down to 0201 component size.

  • Install and maintain Computer-On-Module systems running Linux.

  • Coordinate upgrades, maintenance and calibration of lab testers and other equipment.

  • Maintain lab workspace cleanliness, organization, and tidiness.

  • Conducting engineering tests and troubleshooting on test platforms

  • Performing initial reviews of test result and uploading output data to appropriate repositories

  • Troubleshooting when validation platforms fail to yield desired results

  • Performing debug or special experiments without pre-defined documentation

  • Communicating results and prompt notification of any gating issues

Requirements/Qualifications:

Required Skill Set:

  • You want to be part of an exciting, dynamic, and challenging work environment, requiring rapid and constant learning and skills development.

  • You have a systematic approach to problem-solving within a team and on your own. When something isn’t working properly, it’s important to you to figure out why.

Preferred Skill Set:

  • Diploma of Technology in Electronics.

  • 2 to 5 years of relevant work experience.

  • Excellent analytical, communication, and documentation skills.

  • You have experience with:

    • Circuit schematics and board layout viewers.

    • Fine-pitch SMD soldering, board rework processes, ECOs, and change tracking tools.

    • Python and/or other scripting languages like TCL, Perl.

    • Lab test equipment.

    • Linux operating systems.

We offer a total compensation package that ranks among the best in the industry. It consists of competitive base pay, restricted stock units, and quarterly bonus payments. Benefits of working at Microchip

The hourly pay range for this position is $47,000 - $67,000.*

*Range is dependent on numerous factors including job location, skills and experience.
