Based at our site in Caldicot, South Wales and reporting to the NPI Engineering Manager, you will be an integral part of the New Product Introduction team, contributing to the design, development, and successful qualification of microelectronic modules for medical, high power automotive and highspeed optical communication markets, where small size and high reliability are critical.

Microchip's Caldicot site is responsible for designing and delivering the next generation of advanced electronic module solutions for global technology markets. Our markets include medical applications, automotive, aerospace and renewable energy.

As a NPI Product Engineer, you will contribute to the growth and continued success of the company, by successful introduction and of our next generation products.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Co-ordinating the activities of multi-disciplinary project teams to deliver new products using Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) approach
  • Overseeing risk management and value engineering activities in a concurrent engineering environment
  • Maintaining project budgets, schedules and product costing files
  • Ensuring appropriate control and distribution of engineering data and quality records.
  • Liaising with customers, suppliers and internal business functions on various Microchip sites, including representatives of purchasing, quality assurance, finance and marketing, etc.
  • Overseeing procurement and management of engineering materials needed for development builds on site.
  • Contributing to the assessment and planning of potential new business opportunities.

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Degree-level educated, or equivalent, in a manufacturing/engineering related discipline
  • Conversant with Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) approach to introduction of new high-reliability products
  • Preferably 3+ years' experience of working in a concurrent engineering environment
  • Proven project management abilities (scheduling, contingency planning, budget tracking, expediting)
  • Demonstrable problem-solving, risk management and negotiation skills
  • Results focused and improvement driven
  • Structured and systematic approach to tasks and communications
  • Strong team facilitation
  • Practical and resourceful
  • Articulate - able to convey technical options/arguments in a concise way
