Job Description:

Join Microchip's Programmer Tools Functional Unit, where we are shaping the future of secure SoC/FPGA programming and debugging systems. Our team is building the next generation of Secure Programmers and their supporting software tools-critical components for high-assurance development and secure provisioning of complex devices. We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to help lead this new and strategically important initiative.
As a key contributor, you will work on a greenfield project, developing software for brand-new technologies and systems within Microchip. Rather than maintaining or extending legacy tools, this role focuses on architecture, design, and development from the ground up. You will play a leading role in defining the technical direction and driving innovation across our programming solutions. The ideal candidate brings strong software engineering skills, security awareness, and a passion for shaping modern development tools. You will also mentor and guide other engineers-junior or senior-helping to shape a strong and collaborative local team. An interest in or experience with AI-powered development tools is a plus as we explore new productivity-enhancing technologies.

Primary Job Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the design and development of secure programming and debugging systems for SoC/FPGA devices.
  • Architect and implement new features in C/C++ targeting real-time environments and secure provisioning workflows.
  • Collaborate across teams to define software architecture, toolchain integrations, and secure system boot processes.
  • Develop cryptographic protocols and secure update mechanisms tailored for production environments.
  • Guide and mentor other engineers, contribute to technical leadership, and help define long-term development best practices.
  • Explore and apply modern development tools, including AI-assisted technologies, to improve team productivity and quality.

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in software development with C/C++.
  • Solid understanding of software development principles, debugging, and system integration.
  • Familiarity with cryptographic protocols (e.g., secure boot, TLS/SSL, key management).
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to contribute to a high-performance engineering culture.
  • Experience mentoring or leading engineers at various experience levels.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MS in CS/EE or related discipline.
  • Experience with secure provisioning, secure firmware updates, or key injection systems.
  • Familiarity with Linux development environments (e.g., Yocto-based distributions) or embedded toolchains.
  • Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash).
  • Exposure to post-quantum cryptography and/or modern secure development lifecycle practices.
  • Interest in or hands-on experience with AI tools for software development (e.g., code assistants, static analysis, or test generation).
