Job Description:
We are looking for an energetic and self-motivated person with an Engineering or Computer Science background to join our Software team in the Communication Business Unit at Microchip. We are building software for Microchip’s leading-edge high-performance 64-bit System on Chip (SoC) devices, such as the PIC64-HPSC (https://www.microchip.com/en-us/products/microprocessors/64-bit-mpus/pic64-hpsc) designed for Space applications. These SoCs contain clusters of high-performance CPUs, running Linux and RTOS’s, and supporting advanced Ethernet/TSN interfaces, Ethernet switching, PCIe/CXL, and other peripheral interfaces and specialized functions. Our software serves as the foundation for mission specific solutions developed by our customers for control and autonomous systems in the space, aerospace, and other markets. Our focus is on technical excellence, teamwork, collaboration, and continuous improvement in an open and encouraging environment.
As a Software Senior Engineer II, you will be part of a team of professionals designing and implementing software and firmware for these multi-core SoCs. Your role will specialize in the development of software tools enabling the advanced debug and trace systems for these SoCs. You will collaborate with the design team to review technical documents to help them design a successful device. You will also provide technical support to internal teams and customers on trace and debug subjects. You will also write technical documents like specification and user guides documents.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design, develop, and integrate software tools and related embedded software to enable the configuration and debug of the SoC and its associated software.
- Assist in the development and debug of other system level software components such as low-level device drivers and boot software including secure boot.
- Participate in code reviews of software contributed by team members.
- Create documentation such as design documents, user manuals, and release notes for delivered components.
- Communicate and collaborate with other internal development teams and ecosystem partners.
Requirements/Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Computer/Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent
- 8+ years of related work experience in Software development for embedded systems.
- Solid working knowledge of C and Python.
- Experience with software development tools such as Git/Bitbucket, Jira and VSCode.
- Experience working in a Linux development environment.
- Understanding of CPU architectures, caches, interconnects, and other, and an ability to comprehend hardware documentation.
- Experience working with hardware emulation environments such as Protium and Palladium is desirable.
- Knowledge of RISC-V and those open-source specifications is an asset.
- Understanding of security concepts related to secure boot is an asset.
- Demonstrated experience developing high quality code.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and documentation skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills, and experience as part of a collaborative development team.

The annual base salary range for this position is $86,000 - $186,000.**Range is dependent on numerous factors including job location, skills and experience.
