Job Description:

Microchip System Operations supporting FTS product line is considering a candidate for New Product Introduction (NPI) Operations Engineer and Project Lead to work for Government Systems product group based in Boulder, CO. In this position, you’ll be working on complex, multi-disciplinary projects from start to finish — working with the design team to plan operation’s requirements, manage project schedules, identify risks, and communicate clearly with cross-functional partners within the company and external contract manufacturing. You’ll be driving operations new product development as well as supporting those products through the production ramp.

Many of the new products will be developed for government applications and only attain product lifecycle milestones of prototype to production release status, when appropriate products will be fully released to production. This role will guide a group of highly capable technicians that will support prototype fabrication, tooling/fixture setups in support of project demonstration testing, as well as various project deliverables. This group must be able to work with little or no oversight and meet or exceed compressed timelines as needed for rapid prototyping requires, as well as have the technical prowess and discipline to properly vet processes, designs, and supply chains for reliability and manufacturability and set the Boulder organization up for success in full volume production.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead cross-functional teams within operations and with external partners to prepare for production ramp and/or product transitions
  • Plan and execute operations development activities and ensure the transition to production within cost, quality, and capacity parameters
  • Support prototype fabrication, tooling/fixture setups in support of project testing
  • Manage ramp readiness with internal teams as well as external partners (e.g., material availability, cost/assembly/test/BOM/capacity readiness, and transition plans)
  • Provide design review input in preparation for design release in the areas of design for manufacturability, testability, reliability, and serviceability
  • Setup and ongoing maintenance of part data in our PLM (AGILE), ERP (AX), creation of Work Instructions and use of production support databases/systems to enable proto, pilot, and full production manufacturing
  • Drive cross-functional teams to optimize the supply chain for specific strategic reasons, while accounting for risks, changes in schedule, or demand
  • Ensure successful production transitions meet program goals
  • Ensure World-Class Manufacturing concepts are vigorously pursued; implement and/or support continuous improvement programs
  • Understand IPC-610 & J-STD-001 specifications as they apply to assigned products & processes.
  • Ensure product test process definition documentation is maintained, and support manufacturing training
  • Understand and implement Microchip FTS Quality Manual and related in-house procedures as they apply to assigned processes and new products
  • Take on other related engineering duties as required and assigned

Requirements/Qualifications:

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering; Mechanical, Electrical, or similar or other relevant field or equivalent practical experience
  • 7 years of industry experience in new product introduction (NPI), process/manufacturing engineering, project management, and/or program management with a Masters Degree, or 10 years of experience with a Bachelors Degree.
  • Experience working across full product life cycle from prototype and mass production to end of life
  • Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize, and deliver quality results in a time-sensitive environment
  • Exceptional written and verbal interpersonal skills
  • Excellent communication skills: Ability to communicate effectively with multiple levels including engineering and operations leadership teams
  • Must be a US Citizen

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with hardware bill of materials (BOMs), production job routings, touch time evaluation, drawing review, process documentation, and assembly/test processes
  • Experience in multiple aspects of electrical/mechanical hardware operations
  • Ability to build strong relationships, work effectively cross-functionally, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and lead cross-functionally
  • Experience leading complex new product introduction programs with a proven ability to multitask, analyze opportunities, define successful approaches, and proactively solve problems
  • Ability to communicate project requirements and schedules
  • Active “on the floor” experience - utilizing your Electrical, Mechanical, Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering manufacturing skills
  • Experience supporting contract manufacturing and box build

Benefits of working at Microchip

The annual base salary range for this position, which could be performed in Colorado, is $70,000-$163,000.*

*Range is dependent on numerous factors including job location, skills and experience.
