Role:
The Senior Manufacturing Engineer is called upon to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to manufacture space products used on state-of-the-art satellites.
They participate in the design phase, championing Design for Manufacturing principles to ensure the manufacturability of the product. This is done in collaboration with the various stakeholders of the design, purchasing and quality teams. They also support production during the new product introduction phase to ensure products move from prototype to production in an efficient manner, and any required design changes are implemented quickly.
For various projects, the engineer is responsible for the efficient communication between production, program management, design, test, quality assurance, and other teams.
In addition to monitoring projects, the engineer actively participates in the continuous improvement of the various production departments. Continuous improvement consists of optimizing or automating tasks, selecting, evaluating and qualifying new equipment, implementing corrective actions, qualifying new processes/products/subcontractors. He/she also contributes to the implementation and monitoring of the Lean Manufacturing philosophy. Working in a constantly evolving environment, the manufacturing engineer is recognized as an agent of change within his/her team.
The Senior Manufacturing Engineer works closely with management, leading a subset of the team. They are expected to delegate tasks and monitor team execution, as well as actively coach more junior colleagues.
TASKS:
- Determine strategy for the assembly and integration and test of MDA products
- Ensure communication between the different members (design technical authorities, technologists, planners, quality assurance, management, etc.)
- Continuously review the product design to ensure manufacturability
- Suggest and implement new technologies such as robots, vision systems, quality control and preventive maintenance tools in collaboration with the engineering and production teams (technology watch)
- Analyze and validate existing processes, while participating in the design, installation and deployment of new solutions
- Using the tools and ERP, monitor costs and schedules
- Develop and implement optimal working methods, efficient testing tools and train users appropriately
- Participate in Technical Overview Boards (TOBs) to ensure production needs are met in the designs
- Represent the production team during MRBs
- Maintain, improve and troubleshoot existing production equipment
- Discussion with the project manager and the client to define the requirements
- Communication with other team members, both internally and externally
- Support production after start-up
- Analyze performance indicators of production cells
Experience and skills required:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent with 10 years of experience
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team
- Good written and oral communication skills in French and English (Contact with customers outside Quebec)
- Demonstrated coaching and leadership skills
- Interest in change and new technologies - Change management
- Ability to learn quickly and work under pressure
- Able to work on several simultaneous priorities
