Job Description

We are seeking a Principal Architect to design and implement architecture for our Edge solutions. We are moving fast and are adding to our best-in-class team, and joining McDonald's means thinking big every day and preparing for a career that will impact the world. We are customer-focused, committed to being leaders in our industry, and believe we are better when we work together. As a part of our modernization efforts, we are installing Edge servers managed by Google Cloud for faster, low latency analytics and enhancements to our customer facing platforms. This critical program requires strong Principal Architect (Domain) for our Edge solutions.

This role is responsible for designing, ensuring quality implementation and optimization in support of our Global Edge program. This role works in close collaboration with our Enterprise Architecture team. The ideal candidate will have a strategic mentality, deep technical expertise (particularly around server technology), and a strong background managing/contributing to large-scale IT infrastructure programs.

Accountabilities & Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive infrastructure architecture strategy that aligns with business goals and supports global restaurant operations.
  • Design scalable, reliable, and secure infrastructure solutions, including cloud/on-premise infrastructure, networks and storage systems.
  • Lead the architecture and design of the Edge program built to ensure we meet performance, security, and scalability requirements.
  • Work with partners and Suppliers to establish high-level solution intent; help establish the solution intent information models and documentation requirements.
  • Define subsystems and their interfaces; allocate responsibilities to subsystems; understand solution deployment and communicate requirements for interactions with solution context.
  • Partner with the IT team to plan and execute testing and deployment of the platform.
  • Establish critical nonfunctional requirements at the solution level; participate in the definition of others.
  • Identify potential risks and issues related to the platform implementation and develop mitigation paths and contingency plans.
  • Ensure that all relevant documentation, including project plans, reports, system design, and manuals are created and maintained.
  • Lead, coach and inspire teammates to align with Edge Program goals in a culture of continuous improvement and curiosity.


  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; advanced degree or relevant certifications are a plus
  • 12+ years of experience in technical project management roles, with a focus on platform development or IT solutions delivery
  • Strong understanding of platform architecture, design patterns, and development frameworks
  • Ability to think strategically and translate business requirements into technical solutions
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Familiarity of IT systems, technologies, and standard processes.
  • Ability to adapt to new technologies and methodologies

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with the McDonald’s business model, including intimate knowledge of our markets, market priorities, and key leaders.
  • Proficient in technical writing and demonstrating various creative mechanisms to communicate to diverse audiences.
  • Capability to identify gaps in technological capabilities and submit requirements to meet identified gaps.
