Product Quality Specialist – Casual Position

Do you want the chance to grow your career and work within a state-of-the-art Quality Assurance facility? Reporting to the Senior Manager, Quality Services Regulatory Compliance, you will lead and perform a variety of functions in a team-based environment to assist the Quality Assurance Department in fulfilling its mandate of ensuring products purchased and offered for sale are authentic, safe for consumption and compliant with federal, provincial and LCBO requirements.

If you enjoy leveraging your strong regulatory knowledge, thorough understanding of Quality programs and Quality Systems, exceptional customer service and communication skills to make sound independent decisions, manage product compliance and support corrective action with our vendor partners, then this role is for you!

About the Role

  • Receive, coordinate and process samples for QA chemical and sensory testing

  • Independently log samples and prepare the laboratory line-up for testing in the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) with the required product information, testing fees, and assign the required tests to support product compliance with Regulations

  • Independently review requests for Product Label Examination submitted by internal and external clients and provide detailed and accurate feedback to support compliance with Regulations and applicable policies and standards. Execute Lab Failure Processes and Corrective Actions to address product non-conformance issues; collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to align on actions to be taken

  • Maintain electronic file systems to monitor review activities, store and recall label images and supporting documentation

  • Conduct shipping container packaging reviews, communicate and guide suppliers and agents to achieve compliance

  • Support sample handling to meet LCBO Supply Chain requirements

  • Tactfully manage interactions with internal and external stakeholders, manage vendor inquiries, compliance and corrective action

About You

  • Post-secondary education in Chemical Laboratory Technology, Chemistry/Microbiology, Food / Life Science or equivalent combination of education/experience

  • Solid technical education in areas of Supply Chain and/or Food Safety/Production-Distribution with exposure to Canadian Regulations

  • Education / training and/or equivalent experience within a registered Quality Management System

  • Demonstrated, exceptional practical knowledge of beverage alcohol compositional standards combined with extensive product knowledge, including FDR standards of identity, knowledge of manufacturing practices, product quality and control relevant to the beverage alcohol industry.

  • Compelling knowledge of LCBO product labelling and packaging requirements, applicable federal and provincial acts and regulations and CALJ Product Identification Standards for the Distribution of Beverage Alcohol

  • Demonstrated strong knowledge of LCBO administrative policies and procedures pertaining to product distribution, testing, alerts and recalls, as well as customer complaints and quality investigations

  • Fast and accurate data entry skills as well as sound experience with LCBO and QA business systems, including LIMS, NISS, SCMe, Elite, VQAO Wine Approval System. Demonstrated knowledge of MS Access databases and intermediate skills using Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel and Outlook)

  • Solid knowledge of analytical testing methods, sensory methodologies, packaging review methodologies relevant to evaluation of quality of beverage alcohol products.

  • Client driven, strong customer service skills, exceptional verbal and written communication skills, proven collaboration skills.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail balanced with well-developed interpersonal, team building and negotiation skills with an emphasis on leadership.

  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision, ability to prioritize and multi-task effectively in fast paced environment, with strong administrative and organizational skills

  • Practical experience working within an ISO 9001 and 17025 quality management system environments

  • Product knowledge acquired through the completion of LCBO Product Knowledge Correspondence Course – Level III or equivalent
