Keysight is looking for a RAN-focused wireless software engineer with deep 3GPP expertise to help build and evolve test, emulation, and validation solutions used across the wireless ecosystem—spanning device, chipset, network infrastructure, and Open RAN. You’ll work close to standards and real implementations, translating specifications into robust software capabilities that enable customers to validate conformance, interoperability, and performance across the RAN lifecycle.

This role is ideal for someone coming from a leading RAN organization who enjoys working at the intersection of 3GPP specs, real network behavior, and high-quality software.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement software capabilities aligned to 3GPP LTE/NR (e.g., RRC, PDCP/RLC/MAC, PHY interactions, procedures, state machines, timers, KPI/measurement semantics).
  • Convert evolving requirements (3GPP releases, operator acceptance needs, O-RAN priorities) into clear software designs, test workflows, and reusable components.
  • Build and maintain automation and tooling for protocol conformance, interoperability, and performance validation for RAN-facing scenarios.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional experts (systems, RF, protocol, product, customers/partners) to reproduce field issues, debug complex behaviors, and deliver fixes with strong root-cause discipline.
  • Create high-signal artifacts: design docs, test plans, trace/pcap interpretations, and technical notes that stand up to scrutiny from senior telecom engineers.
  • Contribute to solution evolution for modern RAN architectures including Open RAN / O-RAN interfaces and multi-vendor environments.

What you’ll work with

  • Open RAN / RAN & Core validation: automated suites enabling conformance, interoperability, performance, security, and energy-efficiency validation across the test lifecycle.
  • 5G network emulation: solutions covering NR, sub-6 and mmWave use cases and test domains; software paired with network emulation platforms to emulate 5G NR network behavior and configure standards-compliant testing.
  • RAN measurement & optimization tooling (as applicable): field test/verification support for advanced 5G NR technologies like DSS, beamforming, massive MIMO, and O-RAN.

Qualifications
  • Strong, hands-on expertise in 3GPP LTE/NR with a clear RAN focus (e.g., L1/L2/L3 procedures, scheduling concepts, mobility, bearers, signaling flows, performance metrics).
  • Professional software engineering experience (typically 8+ years, but we value depth and scope over a number).
  • Strong coding skills in C/C++ (and/or modern Python for automation/tooling); comfortable in Linux development environments.
  • Proven ability to debug distributed/real-time systems: logs, traces, protocol analyzers, KPIs, timing, performance bottlenecks.
  • Clear technical communication in English (written and verbal), including turning complex spec-driven topics into implementable requirements.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience with RAN product development (gNB/eNB), RAN performance optimization, or feature verification in complex system environments.
  • Familiarity with O-RAN architecture/interfaces (O-RU/O-DU/O-CU, fronthaul, RIC concepts) and multi-vendor integration challenges.
  • Experience with CI/CD, test frameworks, containers, and/or cloud-based deployment environments.
  • Prior exposure to standards work (3GPP RAN1/2/4/5) or strong experience implementing features directly from evolving specs.
