Keysight Technologies in Germany is looking for a photonics R&D engineer, who ideally also knows about software or electronics development, to support our photonics R&D activities. In this role, you will get the opportunity to work in a highly motivated international team on the next generation of photonic test and measurement instruments.

The successful candidate will have a deep knowledge in optics/photonics and practical experience in fiber-optics and/or Photonic Integrated Circuits (PICs). Experience in firmware development or electronics design is considered an advantage.

Candidate are expected to work onsite in Boeblingen at least 3 days a week.


Responsibilities
  • Support and drive development of optical/photonic test and measurement instruments
  • Definition, test and validation of optical designs and PICs
  • Test and data analysis of individual components, assemblies and instruments
  • Definition and implementation of calibration routines
  • Responsible for writing, debugging and testing test software
  • Participating in meetings with colleagues to present and discuss results

Qualifications

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree plus 4 years of work experience or Master’s degree plus 2 years of work experience in physics, electrical/electronic engineering or related discipline
  • Demonstrated experience in photonics and/or PICs (analysis, design, simulation)
  • Knowledge about optical components and/or photonic systems
  • Hands-on experience with fiber-optic equipment
  • Programming skills for data analysis, (e.g. Python, Matlab)
  • Good communication and presentation skills and an approach to solve problems analytically
  • Ability to work in a multi-site, multi-cultural global team environment
  • Very good English written and verbal communication skills

Preferred qualifications:

  • PhD plus 2 years of work experience in physics, electrical/electronic engineering or related discipline
  • Hands-on experience with optical design software, e.g. Zemax, Ansys/Lumerical
  • Hands-on experience in PIC testing
  • Knowledge about direct-detection and coherent optical communication systems
  • German language skills
