Knowledge Engineer (KE) – Job Description

Primary Function:

The Knowledge Engineers are responsible for working cross-functionally with R&D, Marketing, order fulfillment and New Product Introduction teams to design configuration solutions to simplify the ordering process, and ensuring Keysight products, software, services, and solutions are accurately built to customer and company specifications. This function also involves leading the bill of material structure design for models and options, which must be created in the Oracle Enterprise Reporting & Planning (ERP) System prior to configuration development. The goal is to achieve >99% accuracy for quote and order execution. Configuration developers help achieve these goals by making the quoting process:

  • EASY: Create Configurator UI so simple and logical that it guides customers and salespeople to a good solution. Hiding the complexity, having the system make all decisions that are implied by a configuration, so Sales can focus on selling.
  • ACCURATE: Write configurator rules so that orders can be configured accurately, ensuring the order arrives at Manufacturing without errors.
  • ROBUST: Address multiple use-cases, through all sales channels, and in all regions/countries.

INTEGRATED: Link to other systems (SalesForce, Logik.io to Oracle,... Tax, Trade, Revenue,


Responsibilities

Principal Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates and consults with business partners and stakeholders on how best to facilitate Keysight instrument, accessory, software and service product offerings in a way that meets or exceeds customer expectations while meeting Keysight development, manufacturing, sales, installation and maintenance standards and requirements.
  • Determines how to execute the product offering strategy using standard Keysight’s Product Data Management and ERP systems, including integration/migration across systems, interface solutions and platforms.
  • Understand product features to create configuration User Interfaces (UI) for new products to be used by the Keysight field engineers, sales/marketing, and customers to obtain quotes & orders.
  • Coordination and optimization of pricing for (all) new products for quote/order configuration, working directly with Product Manager(s), the New Product Introduction (NPI) Manager(s), and Pricing Administrator (if applicable).
  • Develop and maintain rules in the configurator developer for desired product representation, enabling the ordering of a valid solution, product, or service to meet customer's requirements.
  • Quickly fix configuration errors identified by Marketing, Order Fulfillment, Customer Service Reps, or customers (internal and external).
  • Execute test scenarios to validate configuration rules and UI/UX.
  • Participate in process improvement efforts related to product representation and the ordering of valid solutions, products, and/or services.
  • On-going maintenance of current products per business requirements, including the Keysight product lifecycle along with execution of the discontinuation strategy.
  • Collaborate with Marketing, Product Management, Order Fulfillment, R&D, the internal database standards group (Keysight Quality) and IT; acting in an internal consultant role, related to model & option product structure (bill of material) and configuration. Plays a key role in providing scalable solutions and new or improved business processes that align with strategic goals, also establishing and driving alignment with Keysight Standards.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Information Systems/Technology, or Computer Science
  • Preferred skills: Java, C/C++, Python, Web and scripting languages (JavaScript, CSS, REST API), SQL
  • Demonstrated aptitude with Application-Server Software Platforms (e.g., Oracle CPQ, Siebel, and SalesForce)
  • UI/UX experience
  • Sense of customer urgency: impact to customer and enabling quote-to-cash process.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform analytical problem solving.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision or oversight
  • Ability to define and troubleshoot complex logic expressions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, focusing on partnership with Marketing, Product Management, OF, R&D Teams.
