About the Job:
You will be a key member of the Keysight group focusing on 6G. Our core mission is to develop groundbreaking solutions that will change the company. We are leading efforts to develop and advance test and measurement solutions in connection with emerging 6G technologies. Specifically, the efforts involve collaborative European and Spanish research projects, where we are working with a wide range of partners to prove these new 6G technologies. This is while developing the enabling solutions and testing methodologies to meet the needs of 6G. The proof of concepts we aim to demonstrate includes concepts like ORAN, RIC, Xapps development, Digital Twin Networks, applying AI to the Air Interface and network operation, Cell-Free networks, satellites (NTN), and other radical new technologies in scope for the next generation of cellular networks (6G). To that end, we are seeking a diverse range of profiles to facilitate the development of such concepts.
About the Team:
You will be a crucial member of Keysight Laboratories (Labs) located in Málaga, Spain, the forefront research department focused on developing groundbreaking solutions that shape the company's future. Labs actively collaborates on European and Spanish research projects, working with various partners to prove and advance new 6G technologies.
In this position, you will be exposed to different collaborative projects. However, your focus will be on a joint 6G research project with the University of Malaga, in which your academic supervisor will also be directly involved. You will need to delve deep into understanding cellular technologies and the underlying infrastructure, paying particular attention to the Open RAN (ORAN) architecture, paving your way towards 6G networks. The collaboration project focuses on the Radio Access Network (RAN) and virtual network functions. More specifically, the work will be on smart resource management (focusing on the RAN part of the network) in ORAN and 6G, using AI to manage resources efficiently (providing better services while also considering energy efficiency aspects). You will have access to the wide Keysight portfolio of solutions for cellular networks: performance measurements, digital twin, RIC tester…. You will also have access to a state-of-the-art laboratory with a wide variety of hardware tools to facilitate your research, such as UE generators, channel emulators, trial 5G networks, ORAN networks, etc.
Your main responsibilities will be:
- Acquiring a profound understanding of 6G technologies and contributing to the state of the art.
- Cooperating with the project’s partners and learning about their challenges to propose solutions.
- Implementing 6G concepts/technologies (e.g., xApps, mechanisms to test AI algorithms in ORAN).
- Defining KPIs and designing test cases to evaluate 6G technologies/improvements.
- Describing the work done and proposed solutions in the project deliverables.
This position is open to recent graduates of Master's or those who are about to graduate in the upcoming months.
- Master’s degree in telecommunications, network engineering, or computing engineering.
- Experience working with 4G and 5G wireless network technologies.
- Experience with O-RAN (ideally in the area of RIC).
- Experience with Git versioning control (GitHub, Gitlab) and automation of development and build pipelines.
What We Offer:
This is an Industrial PhD position in collaboration with the University of Malaga. You will work with us as a full-time engineer undertaking an Industrial PhD on smart radio and virtual resource management. As part of this work, you will regularly engage with the University of Malaga and have an academic thesis supervisor. The expected duration of the PhD is 3 years.
