EMC/EMI Lab Technician - Level 2/3

About the Role: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Level 2 or 3 Senior EMC/EMI Lab Technician to join our team. In this senior role, you will be a subject matter expert, responsible for leading complex EMC/EMI test campaigns, interpreting intricate test plans, troubleshooting advanced issues, and contributing significantly to the development and improvement of lab processes. You will also play a key role in mentoring junior technicians and collaborating closely with engineering teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and execute complex EMC/EMI test programs independently, from planning and setup to data analysis and reporting, ensuring compliance with MIL-STD-461 (all revisions), RTCA DO-160 (all revisions), and UK DEF-STAN 59-411 Part 3 Issue 2.
  • Interpret highly technical test plans, specifications, and drawings to develop efficient and accurate test setups.
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting of complex test setups, equipment, and DUT (Device Under Test) issues, identifying root causes and implementing effective solutions.
  • Calibrate, maintain, and ensure the proper functioning of a wide array of sophisticated EMC/EMI test equipment, including automated test systems.
  • Analyze and interpret complex test data, identify trends, and generate comprehensive technical reports, including findings, conclusions, and recommendations.
  • Collaborate closely with design engineers, program managers, and clients to understand test requirements, provide technical insights, and communicate test progress and results.
  • Develop and refine test procedures, methodologies, and best practices to enhance lab efficiency and accuracy.
  • Train, mentor, and provide technical guidance to other, more junior technicians.
  • Participate in the selection, acquisition, and validation of new test equipment and technologies.
  • Ensure strict adherence to all safety protocols, quality management system procedures, and relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of laboratory operations and capabilities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field; iNarte Certified Test Engineer is a plus.
  • Minimum of 3+ years of progressive hands-on experience in an EMC/EMI testing laboratory, with a strong focus on military and aerospace standards.
  • Demonstrated expertise in MIL-STD-461 (all revisions), RTCA DO-160 (all revisions), and UK DEF-STAN 59-411 Part 3 Issue 2, including in-depth knowledge of test methods and limits.
  • Advanced proficiency in operating, calibrating, and troubleshooting a comprehensive range of EMC/EMI test equipment.
  • Proven ability to interpret complex technical documentation and apply it to practical testing scenarios.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with a track record of successfully resolving complex technical challenges.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical information clearly and concisely to diverse audiences.
  • Strong leadership and mentoring abilities.
  • Proficiency in data analysis software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in Canada.
  • Open to travel constantly between Ottawa and Dartmouth.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Control Goods Status.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and move equipment up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand, bend, and stoop for extended periods.
  • Good manual dexterity for handling delicate equipment and connections.
