BUILDING OPERATOR (FTE)
INVEST OTTAWA – BAYVIEW
Reporting to the Building Manager, the Building Operator is responsible for performing routine preventative and ad-hoc maintenance activities daily to the building and site equipment in a timely and cost-efficient manner to ensure the uninterrupted performance of all building systems and programs at Bayview Yards, managed by Invest Ottawa. At Area X.O (also managed by Invest Ottawa), the Building Operator will support a site-specific health and safety program and carry out corrective maintenance repairs and installations upon request.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Building Manager, Bayview Experience Team, vendors, and licensees to support day-to-day building operations, preventative maintenance, health and safety initiatives, and site-specific projects and events.
Corporate Pay Band A: $48,800 - $73,200
Hiring Salary Range: $48,800 - $67, 100
Reason for Opening: Backfilling a position.
Schedule: Monday–Thursday, 11:00 AM–7:30 PM, and Friday, 8:30 AM–5:00 PM. Occasional weekend shifts as needed (estimated once-twice per month).
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
- Ensure facilities and grounds are maintained to a high standard by prioritizing and completing maintenance requests daily while keeping the work order tracking system up to date.
- Support the proper daily operation of all building systems including architectural, security, heating, ventilation, plumbing, emergency electrical, health and life safety, and fire systems.
- Monitor daily building equipment and BAS systems and report any anomalies to the Building Manager.
- Ensure the safe and proper execution of preventative maintenance procedures and operational servicing in accordance with Building Maintenance Manuals.
- Work closely with approved suppliers and contractors to coordinate warranty and preventative maintenance work on building equipment, HVAC and electrical systems, boilers, dry coolers, and water pumps.
- Collect and report monthly utility data to support timely and accurate chargebacks.
- Act as the secondary point of contact after the Building Manager in the event of emergencies including security incidents, alarms, floods, fire, or other building-related issues, reporting all incidents to the Building Manager as soon as possible.
- Participate as a member of the Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC).
- Support compliance with health and safety procedures and building operations standards.
- Build strong relationships with licensees by providing prompt, courteous, and professional service.
- Support the Building Manager and Bayview Experience Team with site-specific projects, operational initiatives, and events.
- Demonstrate active listening, professionalism, and open communication while fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment.
DESIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
- 2 to 4 years of related facilities, building operations, or maintenance experience.
- High School Diploma required; College Diploma or Degree in Building Environmental Systems or a related field is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of building operations, HVAC systems, and building controls.
- Familiarity with WHMIS and OHSA requirements is considered an asset.
- JHSC, First Aid, and Working at Heights certifications are considered assets.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to multitask and work effectively under pressure.
- Possess personal leadership attributes including: integrity, trustworthiness, time management, professionalism, results-focused, high standards, commitment, ethical values and achievement-oriented;
- Strong organizational, operational, and logistics skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment as well as independently with minimal supervision.
- Mechanical and technical aptitude with the ability to use a variety of hand and power tools.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated professionalism, integrity, accountability, and a results-oriented mindset.
