IT SUPPORT SPECIALIST (6-MONTH TERM)
INVEST OTTAWA – OPERATIONS
The IT Support Specialist provides hands-on first- and second-level technical support across the organization, assisting staff at the main office and across all Invest Ottawa sites. This term role is designed to expand the team’s operational capacity during a period of transition. The successful candidate will be comfortable working independently on routine IT tasks, collaborating closely with on-site staff, and escalating complex issues appropriately. Reporting to the Director, IT, Systems & Security, this role plays a key part in ensuring staff productivity, system reliability, and well-maintained IT assets across Invest Ottawa.
Corporate Pay Band B: $27.90- $41.85
Hiring Salary Range: $27.90-$38.36
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
- Provide technical support through a ticketing system and in-person across all Invest Ottawa sites, resolving hardware, software, and network-related issues across Windows, macOS, and mobile devices
- Configure and deploy devices (Windows, macOS, Android, iOS), including setup of user accounts, Microsoft 365 tools (Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive), VPN, antivirus, printing, and backup solutions
- Support Active Directory and Azure AD account management, including onboarding and offboarding processes
- Set up and troubleshoot AV and video conferencing equipment for meetings, events, and programming
- Assist with IT infrastructure initiatives such as device rollouts, network upgrades, and software deployments
- Maintain accurate IT asset inventory, tracking hardware, software, and licensing changes
- Coordinate with vendors for equipment procurement, repairs, and warranty support as directed
- Support basic network and infrastructure tasks, including connectivity troubleshooting and hands-on work at secondary sites
- Document support activities, resolutions, and recurring issues, identifying trends and escalating where appropriate
- Contribute to IT security practices by adhering to policies and reinforcing best practices with staff
- Build strong working relationships across teams by providing responsive, professional support and clear communication
- Assist with training sessions and onboarding by preparing devices and providing basic user guidance
WHAT YOU HAVE ACCOMPLISHED/GAINED THROUGHOUT YOUR CAREER :
- 2+ years of hands-on IT support experience in a professional environment
- Experience supporting Windows and macOS systems, including troubleshooting and device configuration
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and Azure AD / Active Directory
- Experience with AV and presentation technologies (video conferencing, projectors, display systems)
- Strong understanding of network hardware (switches, wireless access points, firewalls) and basic troubleshooting
- Experience with Intune or other Mobile Device Management (MDM) platforms
- Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and support multiple locations
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users
- Experience with ticketing systems (e.g., FreshService or similar) is an asset
- CompTIA A+, Network+, or Microsoft certifications is an asset
