JOB SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Director of Business Development, Smart Farm and Advanced Robotics, the Field Engineer is a key leadership role responsible for developing and leading research, testing and demonstration projects across Area X.O's key technology domains: Smart Farm, Drones and Advanced Robotics, Smart Mobility, and strategic initiatives in agriculture, defense, transportation, and public safety. In this role, the Field Engineer will be the primary technical resource for client engagements and field operations for the smart farm and advanced robotics technical domains with a supporting role in smart mobility and CAV. The technical project manager will participate in client and project team meetings, advise, and assess project feasibility, plan, and execute technical project delivery at Area X.O and Killaloe. This role will plan and lead the work of a specialized UAV and Robotics Engineer (part-time) to support the unique requirement of Drones and Ground Robotics. The role requires a seasoned and dynamic individual who is highly organized and adept at navigating the complexities of a high-tech R&D environment, working with diverse stakeholders, fostering innovation, and delivery excellence.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

Project Leadership and Delivery

  • Lead the design, execution, and delivery of technical projects for the Smart Farm, Advanced Robotics, and related initiatives at Area X.O and Killaloe.
  • Play a supporting role in project execution for Smart Mobility and CAV projects
  • Collaborate with clients and internal teams to assess project feasibility, define technical requirements, and ensure alignment with Area X.O's capabilities and infrastructure.
  • Manage and oversee testing, demonstration, and deployment of technologies, ensuring compliance with safety, regulatory, and operational standards.

Technical Resource Management

  • Supervise the UAV and Robotics Engineer (part-time), ensuring support for projects in Drones, Ground Robotics, across sectors.
  • Implement, Maintain, and enhance IoT, sensor, camera, and data acquisition systems supporting the Smart Farm and robotics programs and supporting assets for smart mobility and CAV programs.

Stakeholder Collaboration and Engagement

  • Collaborate with Academic, Industry Subject matter experts and other stakeholder partners on research, testing, and data-driven initiatives.
  • Build relationships with clients, partners, and stakeholders to strengthen Area X.O's position as a leader in innovation and technology development.
  • Contribute technical expertise to funding proposals, partnerships, and sponsorships to enhance the sustainability of Area X.O's programs.

Operations and Infrastructure Management

  • Oversee the operation, maintenance, and readiness of Area X.O assets, including command center applications, IoT devices, and robotics and smart farm infrastructure.
  • Participate in tours, presentations, and demonstrations of Area X.O’s capabilities to clients, investors, and key stakeholders.
  • Support infrastructure planning and asset acquisition to meet current and future technical requirements.

WHAT YOU HAVE ACCOMPLISHED/GAINED THROUGHOUT YOUR CAREER:

  • Bachelor's degree or college equivalent in Engineering, Computer Science, Aerospace, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in project delivery, operations, or program management in high-tech environments.
  • Proven experience managing teams and projects in complex, fast-paced settings.
  • Technical expertise in smart mobility, robotics, UAV systems, IoT technologies, and advanced communications.
  • Proficiency in system integration, data acquisition, and troubleshooting across hardware and software platforms.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with a proactive and adaptive approach to challenges.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Familiarity with programming, networking, and protocols is an asset.
  • Expertise in UAV and robotics systems, including programming and data integration.
  • Demonstrated success in managing research and development projects, including autonomous and connected vehicle systems.
  • Experience coordinating with regulatory bodies and ensuring compliance with industry standards.
  • Technical writing skills for developing SOPs, procedures, and technical documentation.

          Work Expectations

          Full time 37.5 hours per week with 10 days per month required in the office.
