Job Description

Position: Design Co-op/Intern

Date: Fall - 12 months (could be extended to 16)

Location: Onsite, Ottawa, ON, Canada

Education Recommendations:

This role is for a candidate enrolled in a Masters or Bachelor (3rd or 4th year) degree program in Electrical or Computer Engineering at a Canadian university.

Are you ready to launch your career in ASIC design and make a tangible impact on innovative optical technology? As an intern in our design team, you will play a crucial role in developing leading-edge chips specifically for the Coherent Pluggable Optics market. You’ll be working at the intersection of hardware design and cutting-edge telecommunications solutions, gaining invaluable experience as part of the Nokia Optical unit, which is integral to our Network Infrastructure division. Our team focuses on designing, developing, and delivering hardware and software for a variety of fiber-based connectivity solutions, including access, aggregation, metro, long haul, and submarine networks. In this role, you will learn and contribute to real projects that shape the future of connectivity.

How You Will Contribute And What You Will Learn

As part of the team, you will:

  • Collaborate on RTL design projects.
  • Develop and implement scripts for design automation, streamlining RTL design processes for enhanced efficiency.
  • Conduct Lint checks to ensure design integrity and compliance with industry standards.
  • Participate in synthesis processes.
  • Engage in waveform debugging, gaining hands-on experience in verifying and optimizing design functionality.

Key Skills And Experience

You're a great fit if you have:

  • Completed courses in digital circuit design.
  • Experience with scripting in Python or other programming languages.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Self-motivated and proactive in work approach.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.

It would be great if you also had:

  • Experience with SystemVerilog or Verilog.
  • Practical digital design experience.
  • Familiarity with ASIC CAD tools.
  • Experience using AI tools in RTL or software development.
