$108,500.00 - $201,500.00At Infinera, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. Your actual base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. This role may be eligible for equity grants, discretionary bonuses, or commission payments. The amount of these incentives is based on the terms of the Company’s incentive plans, the Company’s financial performance, and/or individual employee job performance.

Position Summary
We are seeking a highly experienced Mechanical Engineer – Technical Lead to lead the mechanical and thermal design of optical pluggable modules and other telecom products. This role combines hands-on engineering with technical leadership, guiding a small team through the full product lifecycle—from concept and simulation to prototyping and production. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in thermal modeling, FEA, CAD design, and manufacturing support, along with a strong understanding of industry standards and electro-mechanical best practices.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Development
- Lead the mechanical design of optical pluggable modules, balancing thermal, structural, and manufacturability requirements.
- Perform and oversee thermal simulations and FEA.
- Create and review CAD models and detailed drawings.
- Conduct tolerance analysis, stress analysis, and thermal DVT.
- Develop prototypes and support transition to production with minimal redesign.
- Support New Product Introduction (NPI) by ensuring smooth handoff from design to production.
- Interface with suppliers and contract manufacturers to resolve mechanical and integration issues.
- Author and review ECOs, BOMs, and technical documentation.
- Define and validate labeling, packaging, and regulatory compliance requirements.
Technical Leadership and Innovation
- Lead and mentor a team a small group mechanical engineer.
- Define design objectives, schedules, and ensure timely delivery of milestones.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (electrical, optical, manufacturing, test) across global locations.
- Define product structure and manage product BOMs.
- Contribute to research and development of new technologies and design methodologies.
- Propose and implement innovative solutions to improve product performance, cost and reliability.
- Support sustaining engineering efforts and root cause analysis of field issues.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- 10+ years of experience in mechanical design, including optical or telecom hardware.
- Strong expertise in thermal design, FEA, and CAD modeling (Creo preferred).
- Experience with fiber management, sheet metal, injection-molded plastics, and electromechanical assemblies.
- Familiarity with NEBS, ETSI, ANSI, RoHS, and WEEE standards.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with optical transceiver (e.g., QSFP, OSFP) and ASIC packaging.
- Knowledge of compliance and shock/vibration testing for telecom application.
- Knowledge of advanced substrate technologies such as organic build up, LTCC, HTCC, and high-performance PCB laminates.
